There are several issues that play into this. First, Porsche did not restrict the production numbers on GT3's. They built as many as the dealers could sell. Second, many were bought by people who wanted better performance, but later decided they could not live with the lack of a few extra comfort items and the hard edged feel. The result is a tremendous number of GT3's on the used car market. High supply and lower demand means lower resale. Regardless, they will never be as cheap as a normal Carrera.

There are a couple other intersting trends that need to be kept in mind. Older 901 and 964 prices are on the rise, especially for lower mileage 911 S/C's, Carreras and 930 Turbos. 964's have risen over the last year, but I have not seen the trend on RS models as listed above. They have always been sensitive to mileage and based in the $30's and $40's. 993's have not changed for some time now. I think the price on early 993's will stay where they are, but because of the 996 and now the 997 to show that water cooling is here to stay; those high prices for later C2S and C4S models probably won't stay that way. Early 996's are in the low $30's or about the same price as a 993. Don't expect them to go lower than their lessen performing brotheren.

My prediction for the next 2 years is the price of 01' 996's will settle in the $30's and 02 3.6l 996's will lower to $45K or about $5K less than both are today. 04's will be in the mid $50's with Jahre editions at the upper $50's to $60K. 05' 997's will be in the low $60's and same year S models in the upper $60's/low $70's. I believe the GT3 will be in the same price range as S models: $60's to low $70's.

Default Selling your 996 GT3?

Any of you thinking of trading your 996 GT3 for the more powerful 997 GT3 or 997 Turbo, please let me know. I may be interested.

Yes I might be - I have 2005 with 2900 miles JIC cross suspension setup, lightweight flywheel, Roll bar, evo 2 seats, scroth harness. Custom control arms & drop links (by Jon groom racing), console delete.. setup and maintained by Jon Groom racing. it only has 3/4 soft track days on it, purchased last aug 05 etc etc. PM me for pictures and more. I just put it up for sale in the members section which you cannot access.

I don't want to hijack the thread so... I will now take you back to our scheduled programming.

RSAs still demand 45K for a 10+ year old car, hopefully the 996 GT3 will go the same route. I see the 997 GT3 depreciating quicker because of the sunroof and other fluff it will have.

No offense to RSA's as they are very nice cars, but the 996 GT3 is a way bigger difference to a normal 996 than a RSA is to a normal C2 IMO.

Default 996 GT3

Right with you Luis. The way this is shaping up, I'll be keeping my 3 for a while. Now, what else should I do to it to keep it interesting compared to a compromised 997GT3 or RS ?

Manthey kit?
Motons?
Europipe Exhaust?
Put it on a diet?
BBS lightweights?

All of the above cross my mind at least twice a day.

Down to about 65 in the next two years where the good clean low mileage examples will stay for a year or two and then start to rise in value. These cars are classics, great reliable performance cars that will be as much fun to drive in 20 years as they are today. I doubt mine will burn a drop of oil in the next 20 years and it will continue to show ferraris its taillights. I think the the 997's will be better than most people think but they will not be as pure as the 996 variant.

If you are looking for a 996 GT3 go for it!

Do not waste your life away waiting for some magic sales price. Most sales prices in the $8X, XXX range are reasonable for this car.

Do your research, decide what options you want or can tolerate, and prepare to buy from anywhere in the US so as not to limit your candidates.

Many GT3 have quite a few cosmetic options (if that appeals to you), for example see 9Eleven's red GT3 for sale now.

I was just about to suggest that one:
05, Guards red, 5,xxx miles $85k. It is one of the best deals I have seen.

The thing all you guys are missing is the 996 is an ugly car. The styling is terrible. I would never pay $70+ for one. I think the GT3 is a great car, but the 997 will always be a way better looking car. The values will reflect this. Look at the values of the 996 turbo have fallen to. What a great car. I passed on one at $52K????? WTF. Look at what the 993 is doing value wise. 993's are very popular and even though there performance is sub par the styling is holding it's value. try and buy a nice 993 turbo. They are holding steady at $70k+++????
Let's face it. If someone is going to put out $60+k for a car they don't want it to look like a 996.
That being said. I will own a 996 GT3 when they get into the $50k range. It will hapen. The true appreciation for these cars will come many years from now.
Buy the way, quit knocking the 997 GT3. Sunroof or not, it is a very special car. Time will tell the story. The 997 GT3 will allway's be supperior to any 996 GT3.

Sorry all you 996GT3 owners. The car is sweet but the styling is killing you.
