Also if I recall correctly Top Gear's challenge between the two (360 CS v. GT3 RS) made a huge point about the P-Car having 0 electronic enhancements and how the F-Car was full of them.
My guess is that the 997 GT3 will be closer to the 360 CS than the 996 GT3 RS which in my book that would not be a bad thing. My understanding that on not so perfect road the 360 CS was on a different playing field than both versions of the 996 GT3.
And it some how IMHO would not lose it's appeal at all.

a correctly calibrated system would be good (defeatable of course)
for instance the ABS in my cup car is very different than the street version (faster pulses) as allows full use on the track while in my other 964 i would defeat ABS on the track as it's threshold was too high and increased stopping distances.
we tested both on the cup (abs on/off) and there was about a 7% (shorter disti) gain with abs as opposed to it defeated - plus you could hit a dash mounted switch and disable it.
i am not intending to get into the propper breaking method discussion here guys - that has been beat to death already)
btw the 92 Turbo LeMans was equiped with a racing abs system even faster acting than the cups (the RSR did not have ABS) - this was the most expensive single control unit ever offered by Porsche.
Me i'm looking forward to a used 996 GT-3 soon

This point is interesting but it makes an assumption that proved to be erroneous with Porsche's recent history. The 996 was never offered in the US with the MO30 ROW suspension and yet they brought the GT3 with it's "real" suspension.
I guess we're both making assumptions.
We'll just have to wait and see what zee boys un Stuttgart decide to do.
