But Noel,

just think how LA Jack's will look with smoked tail lights, colour coordinated this and that and other nice ferrari queen features!!!!

My sales guy is trying to find out if we're going to get the RS

Watt, I can't see Porsche bringing that car here - DOT won't certify cars with exposed roll cages.

TOW Z meet?

Interesting dichotomy here. Sunroof (PAG says ALL 997's in North America weill have them), DSG, PSM or PASM or both. Since Porsche is now making unpleasant statements about warranty on tracked cars, maybe they are softening up the 997GT3 for broader appeal which will discourage track additcs like us.

FWIW, if the PSM has a 'race' mode like Ferrari, I can live with it. In race, it does NOT intrude at all. You can quite a bit sideways without it bothering you.

Maybe, just maybe, the GT3 will go through it's own crash tests sans sunroof.

I wouldn't give up too soon on the NA car. Remember the Cayman is nipping at the 911 heels, and Porsche is going to do something to keep the 911 up there, especially the GT3.

Keep the faith, and ask to see the nail holes!

If not for my medical condition and reason for selling my 996 GT3, I would've never considered DSG or the like. However today I hope that Porsche decides to bring the 997 GT3 with DSG. As SuperDarius' site said, the 997GT3 "RS/Cup" street car will have DSG any luck they ship it over minus the exposed cage. After all the Mk II 996 GT3 made it to the States minus the "real" GT3 seats due to regulations.

One can only hope and dream. As I stated in another thread, let's sign a petition asking PCNA and PAG to give us the option of getting the "RS/Cup" street version in the US and Canada.

Anyone with computer skills so that we can set up a page where people can go and e-sign it??

Yes, I'm virtually certain all GT3's will be without sunroofs. They didn't bother to crash-test 2 versions of the 997, since so few people would order a sunroof delete 997 or 997S (ever see a US 993 without a sunroof? There are probably less than 10 in the country). However, the 997GT3 needs to have a separate crash test from the other 997's anyways, for the lower ride height and different suspension. So, don't worry about getting a stupid sunroof with the GT3

Arling, Just messin' with ya. Gallardo is a great car, I'm actually trying to convince Tyson to get one. You'll have to let me borrow it one Sunday.

Watt, strange that the Z is the one car I'm really looking forward to seeing out there...

Too much is the answer

I think the MkI and MkII GT3's weigh too much also. Would be great if they could find a way to lower the weight, but I don't see it happening. With the steel unibody and safety features required, it will be well over 3,000# which is a shame. Maybe the 998 will be an aluminum tub like Aston Martin and Lotus - then they may shave some weight. I wouldn't mind seeing the overall dimensions shrunk as well...

Have heard rumours from one of the motorsport guys in UK, that 997 GT3, will be well into the 1400kgs, what with new EU leglislation on Noise and Safety, and therefore will eat consumables at a much higher rate..
Will wait and see.!
