My 996.1 GT3 driver's (sports, not bucket) seat need some love and I'm looking at repair and replacement options. What I can't figure out is what colour my seats are ... I'm unsure if they are black or dark grey. My understanding is that the seats in all 996.1 GT3 were the same colour, does anyone know what colour they are? What I have determined is that GT3/GT2/turbo cars, the interior colour code on the vin label doesn't tell you the interior colour (as per Adam Streather's book). I can get a certificate of authenticity from Porsche which will supposedly tell me however these are surpringly expensive here in Australia.

I find every source gives things slightly different names. In MY2000 there was a Natural Dark Grey (code 01). 'howtoporsche.com' also calls it Natural Dark Grey Leather however gives it a code of D11. From what I can see, it's difficult to tell the black and natural dark grey apart ... at least from a computer screen.

 

With the under frunk sticker, if you decoded all of the options, one should tell you if it’s natural leather or not.

 

Yes, this is what I originally thought and initially tried to do. My interior colour code is 30 which doesn't align with anything I can find. As part of trying to understand what the codes were trying to tell me I referred to "Porschce 996 - The essential companion" by Adrian Streather. Page 621 provides all the 996 series internal material colour codes. This refers to code D11 as "Natural dark grey all leather for comfort and sports seats, cushions and covers. 8YR is "Black all leather bucket, comfort and sports seats, cushions and covers". Here's the kicker though, on page 626 there's a note: Seat colour codes were only applied to the basic 996 range. For the turbo, GT-2, GT-3, other wide body models and the limited editions, these colour codes were superseded by the more enhanced standard and option packages available.

My suspicion is that all 996.1 GT3 were supplied with the same interior colour .. I just can't work out which one.
