I had a 944 wave at me a few weeks ago and it honestly caught me off guard, but I immidiately waved back. I now signal to all except the trucks. ....and by the way I only get a wave back from less than 50% of 996s and 99% from the air cooled (not that there are herds of Porsches in NOVA).

I know the feeling.

Theres a 996 4S that next to everyday at work.
We park waaay out in the lot where there are no other cars.

So we arrived at the same time for the first time ever, and I went up to talk to the guy.
I made eye contact and was walking up about to say something, and he just turned around and walked the other way.

My next thought was how I could rip him a new a$$ hole on the track. :>

Toronto and the surrounding area has approx. 3 million people, with a lot of Porsches. Of all the Porsches that I see on a daily bases, only 1 person in a white 964 flashes his high beams or waves. I think most new Porsche owners don't know about this tradition, and are too busy in the BIG CITY.

I remember flashing lights at other Porsches back in the early '70's because I was so excited to be driving one myself! Of course many 911 drivers wouldn't acknowledge a lowly 914, until I beat them in a autocross! Still flash now but half the time even with 911's I'll get a confused look or nothing at all, even in the GT3. Get more looks from the rice rockets, etc...

Since the 'wave' isn't working anymore, maybe we should come up with our own secret signal....for all of us cool people here on Rennlist. How 'bout we wave our middle finger when we see another PCar? If you get a middle finger back, then you'll know its a Rennlister.

The flash when encountering another Porsche on the road probably gets the same recognition with many newer owners that the phrase "E-ticket ride" does with kids these days. Damn saying that makes me feel old. Many people probably think a flash is a warning about a law enforcement officer ahead so waving may be the more easily recognized greeting. Allthough JakeMate's suggestion may be confusing to non-Rennlisters.

I sort of know how the guy felt walking away.

unfortunately there seems to be a bit of a back lash against GT3 owner/drivers.

When in the GT3 I was at Sainsburys (supermarket) when an old boy walked up to me as I was putting the shopping into the car.

Completely took me off guard when he started telling me how he hated "you people". As I was with my son I decided to turn the other cheek which just seemed to inflame him even further.

Made me slightly more cautious about catching people's eyes.

It then happened again when I was in the RS!

Filling up with petrol, looked up and saw a guy looking at me so I smiled and greeted him. When I came out after paying he was leaning on my car telling me what a F**K C**T I was!

Now I just keep myself to myself.

Mind you I will always wave at you lot

P.

I have owned two Porsches in Charlotte, NC. A 2001 millennium edition C4 and a 2002 C4S. The GT3 is set to be completed in another 2 weeks and I can't wait! I have always have Porsche owners wave back to me - even had people chat with me at stop lights. Everyone that I have encounted in Charlotte has been very nice! Maybe it is the GT3?

It seems that many people in England are obviously f-cked in the head if they give you that kind of attitude towards a GT3 owner. It must be the lousy weather, sort of like why so many weirdos live in the Pacific Northwest.

Mr. RS, I'm curious myself as I don't get why a GT3 should elicit such a vitriolic reaction either. What's the context?

Mr RS, what part of England are you from?

I think the big problem in England right now is the gap between the rich and the poor, where most people there don't make more than £25k a year. The house market has gone crazy; you need $300,000 to buy a decent house nevermind a $160k GT3 RS.
