I'm selling my 996 Cup Shifter and Cup Cables which were on my 997.2RS for a year before I took them off the car and have been laying around the garage since then. The part number for the Shifter is 996-424-010-9A and the part number for the Cables is 996-424-040-75.
Asking price $1,300 plus shipping and PayPal fees (if applicable). PM me or email me at "mmanpwc" at aol dot com if you are interested.

Basically 15% reduced throw and metal (vs plastic) bushings.
I have a 997 GT3 Short Shifter in my 6-GT3 which has a shorter throw than the Cup shifter and has metal bushings like the Cup shifter does. I think the PO installed Numeric cables with the short shifter, but I am not sure.
Also I think the reduced throw of the Cup shifter cannot be appreciated if installed with your stock shifter cables...you need the Cup cables with the Cup shifter.
Let me know (anyone?) if I am incorrect on the above.

This thread details what is "special" about the Cup shifter...which as it turns out there is not much special about it at all. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...n-upgrade.html

The real benefit for Cup stuff I believe is in the cables....and the reduced throw of the Cup shifter cannot be appreciated if installed with your stock shifter cables...you need the Cup cables with the Cup shifter.

Good info. I think you also can run a 997 GT3 shifter with the stock cables and you will experience shorter throw, similar to cup. I mean the stock 997 GT3 shifter, not the short shifter which is even shorter in throw. Both of those have metal bushings.

I recently ordered a 997.2 GT3 shifter and cup cables, both from Carnewal. The 997.2 GT3 shifter is the same as the cup shifter, except it has 15% shorter throw (at least that's what I recall from reading lots of threads).
It would have been nice to get a cup shifter, but they aren't really available! (well maybe mooty has some stashed away)
My car has the B&M short shifter which I'm looking forward to getting rid of.

Correct, stock 997.1 shifter is shorter than 996 and cup. 997.2 is shorter and has metal bushings (I believe 997.1 is plastic). 996 road and cup are the same throw . In my experience of 997.1, 996 road and 996 cup, I like the cup shifter the best. The long throw makes it feel very smooth where as the 997.1 feels a bit notchy and requires more effort.

Interesting to hear the 996 Cup shifter doesn’t reduce the shift throw compared to a standard item, clearly the Cup cables and solid engine mounts make the shift more positive and feel shorter.
I guess the Cup shifter assembly focuses on durability under duress, and aims to remove the weaknesses of the standard plastic bushes and cable connectors.
I agree completely that the 996 GT3 shift is the best of all the watercooled GT cars, not too short, not too long, not too notchy and not too heavy. Just perfect. I too find the Gen 1 997 GT3 heavy, notchy and generally recalcitrant to use, and not in any way intuitive like the 996 shift.

Just back from the track with my wife's 2004 GT3 (She lets me drive it, in fact she has never been in it) ...every now and then, it was a little more difficult to shift from 2nd to 3rd. I just slow down on the shifting, and voila!, The problem goes away. The car has a about 15,000 miles so I don't think the shifter is worn out. I too have heard that the 997 set up may be worthwhile. But for now, I'll just live with the stock 6GT3 shifter and cables.
