Default New video of the 4.2L Manthey GT3

Rennlist member cgfen just had a thread about the same car, but thought my reply there may get lost, so here's a new English video of the rather fantastic 996 GT3 still in street form but with just 1210kg of weight (2668lbs) and 523hp of N/A power - with that kind of spec it has outperformed the 991 GT3 RS by 5 seconds at the Nordschleife despite obviously less aero and less tire:

It's a great build for sure. But 5 secs faster around the Ring than 991 RS? So under 7 minutes full lap and 6.40 BTG or so? Well that needs some really serious driving.

You as an experienced ring driver should know that is impossible, unfortunately

The mention of it being 5 secs faster than a 991 RS was from a Manthey pro driver. As there is no evidence it is hard to say did they really test it or is it a subjective opinion based on some driving. I would think if they really made a fantastic lap time they would have published it, as that would show thousands of people should upgrade their 991RS's with Manthey kits

Lap time speculation is a joke but regarding to your comment of 6.40 BTG I'll share my view:

Pro driver lap times:
7.20 - 991.1 RS with CUP2 - a Porsche rumor, Christian G (Sport Auto) test was with speed limits in place & I think some engine problems as well: 7.28
7.10 - 991.1 RS with CUP2 and Manthey package - proven by Christian G
7.05 - 992. RS WP with CUP2R- proven by Christian G (yes Kevin Estre lap time was crazy sub7 but the manufacturer times are shady, such as Performante at 6.52 while Christian did just 7.08 - he would never lose 16 seconds to Lambo's Marco Mapelli if the spec is the same!)

So when assuming a Manthey pro has driven (or thinks he would drive) the 996 4.2L 5 secs faster than a 991RS, that would be something like 7.15 full lap in my view.
For a BTG with that type of power and aero maybe main straight is 20 seconds, deducted by T13 of maybe 5 seconds and deducted by Gantry entry at full speed maybe 2 seconds. That would imply a BTG time of something like 7.02 min when starting from the TF entry. Not sure they have driven it but they can think that could be possible...

Well spoken Kaizu- Whatever the lap time could be.. it doesn't really matter. That must be one of the best streetable 996 GT3's there is.

Kaizu,

thank you for clarifying the statement.

Its disturbing when somebody, especially owner(who wants to be taken seriously) or pro who is supposed to be objective authority, makes a statement that both, may influence the choice or opinion of many people, and a statement that is contradictory to any supporting evidence.

For a driver, power is the last methodology for going faster around the ring, because by accelerating harder and having to brake harder, a less capable chassis is just more difficult to handle for anybody but pro, and honesty - less cool- passing people on straights making up time, only to be caught in corners and on brakes, is not the way to show off skills and well engineered car-set-up.

This type of small nimble car is really great road car, like tarmac rally type of driving.

996 GT3 is great as it is, I think: good Exe-Tc or Reigers, open up exhaust and light-seats, go have fun.

Default Spa

The video gives a lap time of Spa. With the owner driving, who drives fast but safe. Can’t we use that as a benchmark?

Not faster than a 991rs but however a lot of fun.

I would love to put that motor in my 996gt3.

Here is is a lap with a very fast ring driver “not me” I’m in the right seat with a grin from ear to ear.
My car with some go fast parts. Stock engine.

As you can see this is almost a full lap. Start and finish line is different at the ring.

Some say you can take away 25-30sek to get BTG lap
times.

So let’s say my car does 7.45 with me 100kg in the right seat. A little traffic hold up, flugplatz and up the hill from Bergwerk. Car is capable of around 7.30. How much does those extra ponies help? Can we get it down to 7.15?

As a a reference for Andreas that is driving. He is a sub 7min driver with his street legal Mercedes Amg Renntech.
So I don’t think he leaves a lot on the table.
