Default replaced upstream 02 sensor

I recently had to replace my upstream 02 sensor due to check engine light being. I HAD MECHANIC TEST IT AND IT CODED OUT AT THE 02 SENSOR.
We cleared the code so I went down for smog check and it failed for the same 02 sensor I just replaced. Any ideas?

My understanding is that clearing a fault is not enough, the OBDII has to be ready for the smog inspection inquiry.
This has been discussed before; there's a sequence of driving at different speeds, RPM and duration in order to ensure the OBD is prepared for the inspection.
I've followed the pre-inspection procedure after clearing a fault and have been lucky so far.
Good luck
