Default Ohlins Road and Track coilovers???

Hi all,

Getting ready to upgrade GT3 suspension ahead of track season and was thinking about trying the Ohlins setup - seems like a good option considering my budget (JRZ's would be nice, but don't want to go that far). I do/plan on doing 4-5 events per season. Do any of you have experience with these on a 6GT3? Are the spring rates (400 front, 800 rear) a good option for running NT01's or Hoosiers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I am interested in these as well, and looking forward to any new info on their advisability.

From what I understand the 400 fronts are too soft, but can be easily upgraded to 600 when ordered, with a corresponding shock valving. They are also a good price relative to other adjustable alternatives, and their simpler adjustment parameters are perhaps a blessing in disguise.

Quite a bit of information here if you search, but like I said, they sound good and it's always good to see how solutions work out over the long term and with more users reporting the good and the bad..

Cheers

Matt

have been running R&T's on my GT2(same kit as GT3) for a couple years/40k km's, work great as a dual sport kit, if running slicks/hoosiers you want more spring/valving

My brother has had them on his RX-7 for the last couple of seasons and they have been both great and without issue. He ran them on Nitto's with the stock spring rates and re-sprung them slightly for stickier rubber ( I do realize the RX-7 isn't an apples to apples comparison when talking spring rates but wanted to throw that data point out there). While he doesn't have a ton of street miles on them he does have a ton of track time on them and they work very well in either setting.

Thanks for all the info, y'all! Seems like a good option. ...and sounds like Ohlins will adjust spring rates per need. I'll do so more digging into spring rates and valving (front and rear) for GT3's ...unless someone has a strong opinion I should know about Thanks again!

We have done 4 or 5 of these kits on GT3's and every single one the owner's love them. I had two customers who wanted to re spring and re valve the front, both who had much stiffer springs than the Ohlins kit. Both ended up not doing that and staying with the Ohlins setup and are very happy with how the car drives. Both tell me the car drives much better than it did with the heavier spring setup and is more usable on the street also.

It what I recommend to my customers who want a good performing setup but don't want to spend the earth on getting it.

I have the Ohlins R&T on my 997.1 GT3 and I think they are a screaming bargain. Spring rates are 515 front/ 800 rear. My car is 75% track, 25% street and they are perfect for that. I use NT01's on the track. On the street, the ride is firm but never jarring. They handle bumps really well, in fact much better than the OEM PASM suspension.

I replaced OEM w Ohlins past summer. Love them. Great on the track. Definitely an upgrade from stock and lower cost.
I set ride height 19mm lower than recommended by Ohlin. A better look. You can adjust right height wo compressing spring.

Just out of curiosity, did you bump up the front spring to 515, or is that what's standard for the 997 GT3? Just curious vs the 400 springs on the 996 GT3 package.

Lots of good information (and affirmation) in this thread.

Cheers

515 lb/in is the spec for Ohlins 997 GT3 front springs.

Thanks John. I checked again, and their 996 GT3 fronts are 400, so I guess things were upped for the 997 version.

Cheers

The 997 is a bit heavier, but also has a different upright and brake setup that is both beefier and heavier. This unstrung weight change is likely the biggest driver of the spring change.

The 997GT3 upright is hollow and only over about a pound heavier than the 996 upright. The calipers are basically the same weight also.

Maybe the extra weight is due to the trunk monkey?
