Vinyl Dash Stain
I found some kind of gray and hard gunk stuck to my dash. Nothing would remove it—except some alcohol.
I have removed all trace of the gunk, but now there is a difference in the shine of the vinyl. I've tried cleaning with soap and water and other water-base cleaners, but to no avail.
I put Meguiar's Natural Shine over it, but it still has a dull look to the area where the alcohol was applied. Any ideas on what else I might try?

How much effort is it to remove that part of the dash?
This is the section that runs from speaker to speaker. It might be easier and about the same cost to simply replace it with new or a used one of good quality.

Send it to get upholstered at Classic 9. I'll be doing that this winter with mine (that was my C2 above). Prices went up but I think it's about 2 grand now for the dash, airbag, binnacle and glove box.

Yikes. It's just the top piece and it figures it would be a difficult job to pull.
This will have to wait and maybe a used part will turn up. I am thinking any 996, series II, black dash will fit, so there should be enough of them out there.

My car came with a hole in the dash underneath the ignition. Always wondered what someone might have been doing there. Any idea if that lower section is easy to replace?

One large part makes up most of the dash.

For me, going slow, about five hours to pull the dash. Pretty big job but not hard. Lots of YouTube videos. They are a must to find all the hidden fasteners.

Yes all 996.2 are the same. That’s definitely the way to go. I thought 10K for what is essentially a large piece of plastic covered in cheap vinyl was ridiculous too.
Unfortunately it’s all one piece. For a situation like that you might be best purchasing a repair kit to fill the hole and repaint that small area.

I would just do something like this:
https://www.mcmaster.com/plugs/locking-panel-plugs-6/
You can try the vinyl repair route, but not being perfectly flat and color matching will most likely leave it less than perfect.
Just put the plug in there and if you ever upgrade the car you can mount the Flux Capacitor Cutoff Switch in the hole.
