Fuel Pump Problems
On long sweeping turns my car suffers from fuel deprivation and loses all power briefly. My car is registered as a 2004 996 gt3, but according to Porsche its a 2003. I dont have the build date at the moment.
I took out the fuel pump to see if the problem was the ruptured hose problem others have experienced, but no hose was ruptured, and my pump looks different than all the others in those discussions.
My pump does not have the black hose with a green line that goes from the pump exhaust side. It has the corrugated white tubing. As well, the entire housing is cracked and the pump wobbles around inside the housing. (i am at work at the moment so dont have pics).
When I tried to order a new pump at porsche they said I need the 996 620 057 90 pump, but i thought i need the 996 057 92 pump as it supersedes the 90 pump. On Pelican Parts it shows the 92 pump:

Now I dont know what to do. The 90 pump is in germany and will take 4 weeks to get here. Anyone with experience here?
Below is an associated thread. My pump is the one shown as the last post:

Included are some photos of the cracks in my fuel pump. The cracks go all the way into the housing and allow the pump to move around.
I am baffled. I can only imagine that the pump was installed broken perhaps from new. It doesnt look like anyone else has been in the fuel tank.
JFerrante, I replied to your PM.

Running a Walbro 450 in a GT3 application is absolutely not necessary Steve and it will only lead to problems. It's overkill to use a large pump like the 450 which flows way too much fuel than the GT3 engine could ever need (the 450 flows enough fuel for a 700hp engine). This will only lead to too much fuel bypass which in turn results in fuel overheating. Been there done that. We've done a lot of testing in that arena on my car before getting it figured out. The GT3, like my car, does not have a fuel cooler and as such it's critical that you do not bypass too much fuel. The only way I would ever recommend running the Walbro 450 is with an on demand fuel controller like Motec but there is simply no need for a huge fuel pump on a 380hp engine. Additionally, the 450 will overpower the stock fuel lines as we found out in testing. With stock return fuel lines your base fuel pressure will be too high with the 450 going full bore. Long story short, not a good idea..

Do either of you know if the 2005 is interchangable with the 2004 pump?
I am of the thought that the 2005 pump offers advantages (though I dont know what those advantages are beyond Porsche updating it and they only update to improve) or do I stick with the right pump for my car?

Thats what I thought, but the Porsche Parts fella said that the 2005 does not supersede the pre 2004 pump.
I tend to trust Rennlist before I trust parts desks. This is not a condemnation of the Porsche parts desk, its just that the folks on the forum sometimes have more relevant experience.

Digging this thread up to see what the outcome was? My 996 cup has a similar issue where the engine hesitates very slightly when accelerating and through certain corners, but not others. It’s been suggested that the pump might not be sitting securely in its cradle within the tank. In my case I seem to get full power back after 7200 rpm which is a bit odd.
