Default 3-spoke Tiptronic Switch broken. Cheap fix? NOS is $$$

Purchased a 3-spoke wheel for my '99 996 with tiptronic.

When it arrived, the rocker switch that holds the thumb lever broke. Not the sellers fault per-se, and I'm trying to find a cheap solution for both of us.

PET shows PN 996-347-831-00 which costs ~ $500!!

I'm happy to replace the rocker switch myself but need a cheap fix. As-is the wheel won't work for me and I'm trying to not screw the seller either.

Picture of the damaged rocker attached. It's the little "U" clip that holds the actual button, so now it just flops around and doesn't make contact.

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this.

Thanks!

I believe the 986 uses the same part. I have good luck purchasing parts on 986.com. Very active sellers there parting out cars and such.

Why not return it if it arrived broken and buy another wheel? I see them all the time.

Because it's a good wheel and it was a fair price. As an occasional ebay seller myself, I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to work this out vs. just making it the sellers problem. I don't think he mislead me, it was an accident in shipping, and so if I can get him to pay for the replacement part and I fix it, I'd like to try and make that work.

If not, I'll return it. But accidents happen and I'm not going to be that a-hole ebay buyer if I can avoid it.

I had to replace a Tip switch on my 996 when I first got it. My shop had a good used one and charged me $80 for the switch/button replacement. Not sure what labor was to install, but certainly not much....it's pretty simple. As you discovered, a new Tip switch/button is quite a bit more than $80 - but at least you can use that as a benchmark.

Cheers.

Been buying and selling on eBay for more than 15 years. If the item was damaged in shipping and was the fault of the carrier, then I'd recommend NOT waiting around and ask the seller to file a insurance claim. That money can be used to repair the wheel.

Or, as others have said, if the item didn't arrive in proper shape (Ebay jargon - item not as described), then you should be able by eBay's buyer protection policy to return it free of charge. Then the seller should file a claim with the carrier to get the money to repair the item.

The seller did insure the shipment didn't he? If not, the seller should pay for the replacement part if he sold it to you with the understand that everything worked.

But you know that, right? Good luck!

It looks like there is a lot of information on the switch. Take a pic that shows it. You should be able to find it with the Google. Bosch?
