Floormat Anchor holes - are they punched in every car?
I have a '99 996 that's new to me
Replaced some used aftermarket Lloyds mats with OEM Porsche mats in Savannah.
The Lloyds mats had a belt-clip attachment that was unused. The new mats came with velcro discs (exactly like BMW uses). I'm familiar with this system, except for the life of me I can't find any holes in the carpet to screw them in.
Did every Porsche have the holes in the carpet from factory? I see no hole or any remnant of a factory mark from original mats. And I don't want to start punching random holes in the carpet.
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

Don't know about a 99 but my 2005 996 with original floor mats(I think) had the large velcro discs and no other securement. The Lloyds I replaced them with had plastic "straps" that fit over the front bolts that secure the seats to the floor pan. These straps snap into the new floor mats. No holes through the carpet.

corellian, Although I respect YOUR respect for the car, but screwing the Velcro floor mat disc in a self-made hole in the carpet is not going to hurt the value or the car. Unless you go crazy with an over sized drill bit. hahaha.
Seriously, avoid letting OCD control your Porsche ownership.
Peace!

Find the location and punch a hole w/ an awl. Then screw in the disc. Any rotary instrument (Drill bit) will likely twist up the pile. I found trying to start the disc without punching a hole ahead of time was not easy and the tip of the plastic screw bent over trying to punch thru.

But you could just as easily buy generic ones at most auto parts shops for a fraction of the price.

As curator of the seamy side of the 996 forum, I feel it my obligation to point out that you gentlemen are all eagerly discussing how to rectify your lack of...holes, a situation where I think you may find Ms.Caitlin Jenner's guidance especially apt.

Go to your local Porsche dealer and get the ones referenced in the Suncoast link. Audi and VW dealers probably have them too.
