New to the list. 996 4.0
Hi all!
I am Peter based over in Sweden. I have been lurking on the list sneaking information and entertainment last few years. Just thought I should introduce myself and share some stuff back. A year ago I bought my 2:nd 996 - an absolutely beautiful C2, black, with H&R club sport suspension + sway bars. Otherwise than that absolutely standard, 43000 miles. And, oh, engine shot. I bought it it since it looked absolutely fabulous (yea, I also bring stray kittens home - I am a softie). Also I had a plan. Good plan? Nah... not so much. Fun plan? Oh yeah!! I trailed the wreck to my favorite Indy shop (who also raced P-cars successfully for many years), sat down and had a long talk. Loooooong..... anyways to make a long story slightly shorter- over the winter we built a 4 liter (LNE nickies) engine with Schrick cams, x51 intakes, 82mm throttle, some sort of fancy cold air intake (evolution??), cargraphics full system and race cats. Lightweight flywheel and a sturdier clutch. Of course balanced the engine good and proper. Also fixed the IMS to a more durable solution and an FVD sump. Think that's it. Got the car back in June from the workshop and been on 2 track days and been driving it 3000 miles since... car is running on Michelin cup 2 and Standard brakes with PFC 011 pads. how does it run you ask? Well how do you think it's running?? It's a marvel, it's a dream. Runs mostly smooth and nice until 4000 rpm when all hell brakes loose. We get full torque at 4K and full power at 6.5 k. We put the rev limiter at 8k (pulled nicely up to 9k but no more power). There's actually no point in revving more than 7 or 7.5. I'm in love... Peter |

Awesome story, nice looking 4.0L beast :)
What were your main resources for the build? Curious if you designed it or if your builder took the lead on research. |

Nice! Congrats and welcome! Strong first posts - don't be a stranger.
|
Hi Peter! 4.0's are special and I agree above 4K rpm's the car has a warp speed.
|
Brilliant first post - keep them coming!
Love it that you've resisted modding the wheels and aero - your car looks identical to my factory standard Basalt Black Metallic C2 manual, except for the ride height (tempted, I must say...). A real sleeper! The performance must be intoxicating, and exploit the brilliant chassis and suspension setup perfectly. |
Welcome and congrats on the beautiful beast!

What a great car. Sleeper 911s are the best 911s, and 911s are the best cars, so...Ya know...
|
Great looking car, 4.0L sounds awesome!!
Really like that x51 intake sounds like it would be really difficult to source. |
Nice intro Peter.Your C2 looks very sharp and no one will know what is lurking in your engine bay until you give it some throttle. Well done!

Hi Peter,
Nice work! Sounds like a job well done. I can't believe it can run to 9,000 RPM, lol. |
What is the range in regards to cost to build a strong 4 liter?
Thanks |
I was under the impression that swedes only drove Volvo 850Rs and S60Rs. Congrats on the sweet ride and here is to the next 100,000 miles.
