I am blown away by Discount's handling of my recent 996 tire mishap...
As many of you read, a section of pipe wound up spearing through my tire in two places and notching my front driver-side wheel on my way to the Vegas meetup.
I limped into Vegas on the compact spare (dammit Ireland) and was at Discount the next morning when they opened. I wound up with some awful Continental all-season ditchfinders up front, but matched-but-terrible-new-fronts beats compact-spare-for-three-days.
Discount paid for one tire (I always get full coverage for the 996 and 'Vette tires); I was out $150ish for the other, and I was able to resume the shenanigans.
A few days ago I headed into my local Discount, and the guy who doesn't know me but knows my car listened to my tale of woe. He then wrote up return-to-mfr orders for the two Continentals and warranty replaced them with Ventus V12 Evo2's to match the almost-brand-new rears.
I know the kid didn't break any rules; his manager signed off on the deal, but I was blown away by the level of service I received, both in the Las Vegas store and in my home store here in San Diego. And it wasn't just in my home store where I felt like I got exceptional service...before selling me the Continentals, the kid in Vegas called 5 local stores and asked them to physically check inventory - and their used tires - for anything that would work to get me off of the spare without having to spend money on a "wrong" tire.
These guys get kicked around as "chain" employees, but my Discount store is the only place that's been able to accurately balance every tire I've had mounted for my Porsches. The "preferred installer" recommended by a certain online tire distributor failed 3 times to balance my 996 wheels before admitting that their equipment wasn't rated to balance tires as wide as my fronts, let alone the rears.
Finally, the manager of this establishment takes me aside, apologizes profusely, and hands me the card of a buddy of his who he assures can take care of the issue, and that he'll comp all the costs.
The business card he handed me was for the manager of the Discount store I have always used EXCEPT for this single online fail purchase. Lesson learned: if it works, don't fix it.

I've had interesting luck with Discount tire as well, and also blown away at what they are capable of to make a customer happy.
1. I took my '15 WRX for a flat fix. They ended up scratching the rim. Gave me a loaner wheel to drive one, and ordered me a new wheel.
2. I took my '16 Tacoma with brand new TRD wheels (in boxes) I brought in to have tires mounted. They scratched one wheel. They ordered me a new one. New one came in, scratched that one as well. To make me happy, they ordered me 4 new wheels to be installed anywhere I choose. Let me keep the old 4 wheels, and refunded me half the cost of tires ($700)

I also have high opinions of my local LV & Henderson Discount stores. Wherever this corporate culture is coming from, whether it be regional (CA & NV), or local managers, these guys get it. Go above and beyond on a single replacement experience - and guess what? Chances are that person will come back someday for 4 more... and 4 more... and 4 more... and...

Yup; nothing but good results from Discount Tire here as well. Only time I didn't use them was when one son was in college (KS), he needed tires, and no Discount Tire. Told him to use WalMart since if there was an issue, he could always find one of them.

The days of "4 tires for $100!" weekends are long gone...a set of tires for any of our three vehicles costs more than I paid for my first car...
It seems that Discount understands that there is money to be made by cultivating customer loyalty; how something that seems so stupidly obvious is NOT made a practice everywhere eludes me.

After I explained the extent of my displeasure, I was refunded most of the cost of the new tires; even so, I wouldn't let those dipsticks torque my valve stem caps, let alone work on anything that might cause or prevent death or dismemberment...

When I needed tires for my 996, guess where I went? Didn't even think of going anywhere else.

Yes, DT truly gets the concept that good customer service begets loyal customers.
Me thinks SBUX and AMZN get this too. Most companies, do not.
I will shop prices to keep DT honest, but they will always get my business even if they are not the cheapest.

The Discount Tire store I use is right next to their corporate headquarters. You could eat off the floors in the shop and waiting area. I have always been 100% happy with the price and service. Plus, they point the center cap crest at the valve stem without me having to tell them...
