Their corporate culture is very strong, and they do a great job of delivering that culture in customer interactions. They will never charge you to patch a tire, and if you are an employee in the military and get called to active duty, they make up the difference. They "walk the walk' and that's why they are my only choice.

Have used Discount since day one. They've priced matched tires that I've found online with some they had in house that were quite a bit more. Plugged tire last minute before closing. Overall good experiences and this is from MI to NC to OH. Each location has always provided great customer service.

Just took my tire in yesterday with a nail in it. They didn't even charge me. plugged it and put it back on my car and move the spare back in the trunk.

Discount Tire in Cary, NC off highway 55.

Not bashing here....but when you say they plug/patch tires for free. Are you referring to plugging, meaning ramming with the file and inserting a gummy plug? Or are we talking, patching, removing the tire and patching properly from the inside, reinstalling tire, and installing a new valve stem.

Big difference...

Plugging (incorrect), takes 3 minutes and a 10 cent gummy plug. I would never knowingly allow anyone I love to ride in a car with a plugged tire.

Patching (correct), very time consuming.

Kudos if they plug for free, but that is actually doing a disservice.

No problem! Sorry I used the term loosely here. It is done properly have the tire removed patched, reinstalled, balanced and inflated correctly. They also checked the other 3 tires while they are at it.

I vastly prefer plugging a flat over running a compact spare - but I also assume any tire I plug is disposable and will get replaced ASAP.

Discount is pretty good about not giving me crap when I show up with a plugged tire they could have patched properly - but I've done that a total of maybe twice in my lifetime.

As far as Discount's patching policy - they won't repair any tire if the puncture involves or is adjacent to the shoulder/sidewall; they won't repair a tire that has inadequate tread left, and to my knowledge they do not use plugs.

I've never seen them plug a tire. They also patched a tire for me for free (remove and reinstall tire.) Watched them do it start to finish.

Discount tire / Americas tire (as they are called in CA) are AWESOME. Really really great service at the one by me. You just don't 'expect' it at a tire shop.

I had a trailer tire pickup a nail, they replaced it no questions asked, no plug, replaced, and no charge. It was a year old

From Wiki:

Discount Tire grew from a one-man operation into the largest independent tire and wheel retailer in the world.[6][7] Its growth has been largely attributed to the company’s focus on reasonable prices, customer service, and its satisfaction guarantee.[8] Halle understood that for a company to excel in a commodity market, product differentiation was a non-starter. However, improving the customer experience could greatly improve the brand's value.[9]

Halle attributed the company’s overall growth and success to its employees, for exhibiting the founder's philosophy: treat people with respect and fairness, always do what is right, care for those in need, work hard, be responsible and have fun.[10] The company built its philosophy around its employees rather than its customers because, as they see it, happy employees make happy customers, not the other way around.[11] Halle taught that success comes from focusing on what each person owes to his family, to future employees and to the next customer coming in the door. Everyone has an unbreakable contract to pay forward to the next customer, the next employee and the next generation.[12] For this reason, Halle promised his employees, "Do a good job, and I’ll provide lifelong opportunity for you."[13] That promise resulted in a strict promote-from-within model for the company's management.[14]

You are mostly correct, But probably due to your good fortune of not needing the current state of this art "Patch/plug" required for larger holes to be properly sealed. These have been out for many years.

Clarification: None near me in South Florida according to website, just installers.

Couldn't care less (have a tire guy)....just wanted to see if those who praised their freebies were talking about plugging or patching.

Big chains usually not known for extra-mile CS. Those who chimed in, seem to prove this wrong when it come to DT.

Good to hear.

Discount Tire is equally good at changing tires on a Porsche or a Hyundai. At least, that's what I've heard...

Don't forget that America's tire does free rotation and balancing on ALL tires, even if you just bought one from them. I don't go anywhere else.
