Just wanted to point out, you don't need extremely dark tint for heat rejection.

Actually I think a proper tint job is a major 996 enhancement from every perspective, especially for silver.

+1 on no tint! I paid to have this removed when I bought mine - so much cleaner looking. Also living in the NW we need all the light we can get :-)

I see the OP also lives in Florida. As mine is a DD, IMHO there is no way to survive here without tint. Sitting out in the sun in the parking lot everyday, I imagine my interior would be toast in a week. One can argue the merits of looks, but there is the matter of practicality and interior protection. I paid good money for a professional 3M ceramic tint install and I am very glad I did it.

This is my '99 C4 aero. I bought it this way from the PO. It's way too douchey looking for me, and it's my car. I just finished up some maintenance projects and now it's going back to factory 18" Sport Design wheels, stock tail lights and I'm getting rid of the tint.

Call me a geezer. At 58, I'm too old for the "murdered out" look.

I've debated this ever since I got the car 9 years ago, but still running without tint currently.

This is my 3rd vehicle and it's garaged so I can deal with a little sun if I leave out in a parking lot for a couple hours. But as some have pointed out the tint does look pretty nice on silver, especially with darker wheels. How effective actually is tint at filtering out UV?

So remove it. My 996 had it on the rear and side from the PO and I prefer the no-tint look. It took about 10 minutes to remove it all. Just cut an "X" with a razor blade in the center of the section you want to remove, start heating with a hair dryer, and it will peal right off.

I prefer no tint. In fact, removing the tint on my car was one of the first things I did. Though I have to say... what a pain in the neck job is removing tint!

The car is so much more open and approachable without the tint (and easier to back up too...) .

I started removing it myself and said to hell with it, I paid a mobile tint guy $80 to take it off.

I'm surprised the amount of people that actually remove tint. I'm on the other end, I don't really like the straight see through and just had mine tinted over the weekend. In the darkness of the parking garage this looks pretty dark, but with the tan interior out in the sun, it's pretty see through.

When I was living in NC I had 35% put on the bmw because of how hot the black interior got during the summer days, but in the pic with the sun it's really not that bad.

Imo the 996 with aero looks best in red. Really brings out the lines. Nice ride.
