Omp steering wheel install

Omp steering wheel install
This goes out to all of the people that installed aftermarket steering wheels in their 996's. I purchased a new omp superleggera wheel, quick release, and momo hub. None of it came with instructions. I want to retain my existing horn since I occasionally drive my car on the street. After I took the old wheel off, I don't see how it's going to work. Can someone please help? It seems that if I disconnect the clock spring I can get the hub to fit but then I don't see how the horn will work. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I think there are been a couple threads about Momo hub adapters ... I think you are correct about needing the clock spring in order to retain the horn. IIRC the hub goes over the clock spring. You should be able to find the threads with a bit of Googling:

Don't need to use the clock spring.
You need:
Porsche horn contact 964.652.104.00
2.8 ohm resistor to put in the airbag circuit (I made some leads and used a Scotchloks so as not to cut the connector off.)
Pin for horn wire on switch assembly - P/N for Pin 71 is 999.652.639.22 (Scotchlok'ed a wire into the existing harness so as not to cut the connector off.)
This way you don't chop your clock-spring and don't chop your harness. You can always switch back to factory wheel with no trouble.
Here's the info you need. It's for a 993, but it's the same.:

This is exactly the thread I used when installing a momo when in my 996. It was perfect with one small catch. My horn required the steering column to be grounded in order to make the horn work with the car on as there was no other way to get ground to the horn button.
I ended up soldering that brown ground wire to the top of the metal steering shaft housing. In hindsight, I should have checked for ground on one of the pins near the hot horn wire (pin 71). Point is, try to get a ground wire into the horn button (or don't lose it if you have one there already)
