Default 3rd Porsche but first 996- newby

Hi everyone. I read this forum all the time. Figured I should post a picture of my 996. this is my 3rd Porsche. Had a boxster new in 1999 and then a used 944 turbo. I had been looking for a clean and sorted 996 for years. Picked this one up a year ago. It has new top, wheels, ims, aos, engine mounts and more. Has a fab speed exhaust with cold air intake. This car is mint condition with 55k miles. I love it and hope I don't have any of the big issues. This 996 is the same color as the boxster I had in my 20's so it brings back the memories. I never had a problem with the look of the headlights. Let me know what you think.

Very nice looking. 2000 or 2001? I find the headlights to be very nice. You have a classic color combination that will always be appreciated by enthusiasts. Enjoy.

Very nice. Not very common wheels - I like them.

Default Wheels

I believe The wheels are from a 997. The prior owner purchased them direct from the local dealer just before I bought the car. I still have the originals but these are larger and wider.

Congrats on the ride - if you're doing the maintenance and/or repairs yourself, take a look at the link below to helpful guide on the 996 platform. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Re the headlights "thing":
Most people have moved past this beat up except a few who have never forgiven Porsche for not leaving things as they were. As if that was an option!
But understandable in a marque that arouses so much passion, of course.
Then the IMS failures came along and as far as the Internet forums and journalists were concerned it was labelled a "dog", a "lemon", a "grenade". Values on the used market plummeted.
But this dog sold in unprecedented numbers, brought Porsche (some kicking and screaming) into the modern era, and almost certainly saved Porsche from either extinction or alternative ownership.

Styling issues are always personal, the world of automotive styling has moved on significantly and easy, affordable (in the context) solutions are available for the IMS problem, and the 996 is now recognised as a car worthy of the 911 moniker, with a small lightweight responsive chassis with brilliant handling dynamics.

The price entry point is still much lower than it's going to be. Gettem while they're hot!

Welcome to 911 ownership - you'll have a blast, I'm sure.
