Should I just part out my 2002?

Parting it out will be a hassle and I don't see how you could get that much more than 14k. Really, the engine is the key component. If you do decide you want to part it out, go for a solid price on the engine first. If you can find someone who will pay 7500 or 8k for the 3.6 that whey can hear running and even drive the car, it would be a lot easier to get your money out at that point. Personally, I would avoid the hassle and the risk of having to sell stuff cheaper than you anticipate. You would get the best prices selling the smaller items, such as the transmission, on line. If you use eBay, you will pay approximately 10% sellers fee and another 3% to PayPal. The buyer will also figure in shipping which could be around $150 for the transmission. When the dust settles, you are getting about $1450 in your pocket for that $1800 transmission.
I think the problem is the Tiptronic auto trans only 10% of buyers will buy a Tip, you have to wait for them.

I agree with most here, unless you love the "junkyard" attitude with selling things in pieces, then sells it on BAT or be patient on CL... the right buyer will come around. I'm sure it would pull closer to $20K at a no-reserve auction. My gut feeling is you'd get less with parting it out.

If you don't want to do BAT, ever think about doing consignment out in a major metro area? In LA, definitely a lot of brand ****** looking to get into an affordable p-car that don't know how to drive stick.

I'm in the process of parting out a 2000 C4. I'm also in Philadelphia. What everyone is saying here is 100% accurate. Unless you are set up for it, it takes a ton of time. It is not just the breaking the car apart, it is also the listing, packing and shipping of every item.
There is also a fair amount of getting more detailed photos for people who are actually just tire kickers, or they offer you 20% of what you have the item listed for. You also have a fair amount of time waiting for someone to come pick up an item or look at an item and they don't actually show up.
The other thing is that it seems like you want the $ to go towards the 991. It could take you 6-12 months to get everything sold (if not longer).
All that being said, it is possible, and you most likely would make more than the $14K. I'm at $11K of sales on mine and I have only sold the engine ($6K), seats, roll bar and a taillight. Granted, I sold the engine to myself (that's why it was cheaper) and it had GT3 Euro seats that I got $3K for, so your results will be different.
I'm parting this car out because I blew the motor on my car, and I needed a motor. I already had an infrastructure in place. I had been parting E36 M3s for the last three years to fund going to the track. Jumping into it without an infrastructure is tough. Since I have been doing it for 3 years, how long it takes to sell something no longer matters, since there are constant sales from all of the different cars (I still have parts from the first M3 I did 3 years ago, and I have parted out 8 of them).
TLR - You will make more $ parting it out, BUT it will take longer than you think it would, and will be a ton more hassle than you think it is going to be.
All of that being said, if you are still interested in doing it, don't hesitate to hit me up, I can give you some pointers, you can even stop by and take a look at the operation, since you are also in Philly.
