Are these figures all production, or only US sales?

Yes, it is worldwide production. Haven't seen the US export totals, but if anybody has a lead on where to find those numbers that would be good.

Default 2004 4S Cab w/ six speed

Hello,
I have a 2004 4S 996 Cabriolet w/ a manual six speed. Does anyone know how many of these were built? I was told this is somewhat of a rare car, but I just like driving it and I have no idea if it's unique.
Thank you-

Question: is it possible to have a USA spec 1998 996? Im working on a car's window sticker and trying to solve this riddle. The owner registered it with the My Porsche portal and the report from there indicates its indeed a 996310 car (C2 Cabriolet) and for model year 1998. It also lists what you'd describe as the proper paint/interior codes and engine type/size. The VIN is North American and PCNA said it was sold by a USA dealer which I have. But here's the whammy: its registered as a 1999 car in the domicile state and CarFax says its a 1999. It had a salvage title issued in 2000 -- I think this is what's causing much of the confusion in all of this. The car looks and appears as a 1999 -- I dont think you could even convert a 993 to a 996 could you (weren't they apples and oranges)? The option code sticker was half torn under the hood but it has the 996310 and proper VIN.

This is a real mystery. Never run into this before. I think its probably a 1999 and maybe the Porsche data on their back end server is just misrepresenting it as a 1998. I thought no 1998s were sold in the USA.

Any insight?

Yes and no. in 1998, you could purchase a MY 1999 996. I can only think that in the US market, PCNA did not want to confuse customers buy having both a MY 1998 993 and a MY1998 996, so they just designated all 996s to be MY1999.

I have a 02/98 build 996 that was delivered to the first buyer 04/98. It is a MY 1999 per the documentation.

That's what Im thinking too. I have never seen a 1998 996 Monroney and was never aware of 1998 model year cross pollenation of 993s and 996s like in 1989 when you could still get G-series 911s and the new 964.

I also saw this thread that talked about this same conundrum:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...in-1998-a.html

I just dont know why in Porsche's database they are considering it a model year 1998 car. It has a June 1998 production date. If your February car was deemed a MY1999, then this one has to follow suit as well.

My 3/98 build 996 showed in my Porsche dealer's system as a 1998. FWIW.

There are thousands of 1998 996's outside of the US. I have one. The 996 was sold in the US as a MY99 even though you could get them in Europe as a MY98. Mine has a build date of 12/97.

Hi, just finding this thread. Bought a 2003 996 turbo last week. Interested in this--and going deeper. Did anyone find US stats (earlier than the one posted)? Going even deeper, has any one seen stats by exterior color or even exterior/interior color combo. OK, I know I'm going over the top :-) Thanks!

Not often talked about but there are approximately the same number of 996 Turbo Manual Coupes as there are 996 GT's (which are all Manual Coupes) worldwide ('bout 7,500 ea.).

So before you sell the farm for a GT, remember the standard 996 Turbo Manual Coupe is just as rare as the 996 GT's, and still a relative bargain.

The 996.2 facelift numbers in this workbook only lists cars for 2002 onwards, however some 996.2 cars were definitely produced & sold in 2001. It would be interesting to know how many

All 2001 996 Turbos are 996.2 cars, so there's at least those cars.

Nevermind, after chatting with a friend & mulling it over I think we've figured it out. We've concluded the numbers listed as 2002, are for model year 2002 (as listed on the vin) which runs from July 2001- June 2002, so this would include all of the 996.2 cars built in calendar year 2001, with roughly 520 C2's built per month OR roughly 3124 during calendar year 2001.
