Default 997/996 Key compatibility

I have a set of 997.1 keys from my totaled 997 GT3....Was wondering if I can reuse them. Can you program a 997.1 Key to operate a 2000 996. Same goes for a 997 to 986.

If the 996/986 key fob internals fit inside the 997 key fob then just shift them over.
It should work.

You can't sway the internals form a 996 key to a 997 fob. The switches are I a different configuration
996 - triangle
997 - inline

It may be possible to buy a new 997 fob and have a 996 programmedfor it. I have no idea if the electronics are compatible. Its doubtful a dealer will do it and you pretty much have no choice but a dealer to program a car for a key. In addition to needing a PWIS or PST2, you need to have the double super secrete codes from Porsche

THe article shows going from 997.1 to 997.2...My question is 997.1 to 996.

I have purchased these heads used, on EBay, at different times and swapped my stock key guts/blade into them with no problems. (From a 2003 C2 and 2004 Turbo) Actually I had to file the edge of the blade down to get the lock to engage on one of them. YMMV

For as long as the listing lasts.
