A Mini???

My Dad is English and not really a car guy .
One day my brother in law , dad and I were sitting onthe frount patio , the BIL and I were talking about cars .
Dad says "if I was to treat myself I'd get one of those new Cooper s minis . When I was in university in London the coolest car you could have was a Cooper s"
Dad would never spend money on something fun for himself .
So I started looking for used Cooper s cars .
Someone at the min club told be about the John Cooper works cars , in 2006 they made 64 jcw competition editions for the Canadian market as a tie in to the targa Newfoundland rally .
210 hp. (Regular cooper s is 170) Coilovers , big brake kit. Limited slip diff etc. plus all the luxury trim and jcw carbon fiber options .
I found one , # 48 .
All black , 40k miles on it .
I went up to kelowna to see it , bought it and one of the most fun trips I had was racing back to Vancouver , BIL in my 996 , me in the mini .
It's was like driving Darth Vaders go cart .
One of the last 50 cars built at Coopers shop in Oxfordshire , before BMW bought cooper out and moved the high performance conversions in house .
Fantastic fun car . We gave it to Dad for Christmas. And when Mum isn't racing around in it , he grins every time he gets behind the wheel .
I had a coulple hot mgbs and an original mini with a worked 1275 in it , the newer one is definitely more fun

I bought an '08 Mini instead of a 1996 C4, and I don't regret my decision one bit.

Oh it went well over my unseen limit for that car
I like it, but from the description and pics it has some issues that need to be addressed before I think it would be a reliable DD.
Had I been able to see it and get some good idea about fixing its rust, I may still have been interested at that price. I've gone through 2 rusty e30 iX cars, so I'm leery

I don't even want to think about how much I've dropped on cars purchased sight unseen this year....
For what it's worth, I /love/ old Minis, very much enjoy new Minis, and miss my 2007 MC quite a bit. It had to go to clear garage space for the 996 though, so in the end, probably worth it. I might consider an R56 Cooper S if I decide I want another subcompact.
