I will tell you if you switch to the x-pipe with PSE the exhaust note will change from the deep sound to a higher pitch almost GT3-like sound.
Note sure if that's what you're after but I wanted to make you aware of it. I have some exhaust videos floating around here on Rennlist if you do a search and you can hear what my PSE with Fabspeed x-pipes (with cats) sounds like.

Let me know if you have any questions on the setup. Also note on my PSE the previous owner disconnected the "quiet" function so it always sounds the same.

The PSE is considered by many ( and myself ) to be a great sounding exhaust .... Since your car has it what you may as well consider is to add a switch to the PSE relay so you can have the PSE Sports Sound at all times ( and still be able to deactivate the PSE exhaust from the central console switch if you have it ) , makes a hell of a difference as it keeps the sports mode on for the entire rev range . I have done this mode at a spare PSE relay i got , pretty good fun but i prefer the standard PSE operation as its too loud for me if on at all times .....

I think what you're getting at is disabling the factory mode that silences PSE at lower speeds even when PSE is on, right? I don't remember the exact speeds, but it's something like 25-50kph that silences PSE due to EU regs in some countries. Not necessary to install a switch on the relay, just simply snip one diode and presto, you have PSE that is actually on 100% of the time that you have the console switch turned on. If you have PSE and haven't done this, I highly recommend it.

Yes it's a bit loud but I got used to it and I like the personality of the vehicle with the loud pipes.
Thanks! Sounds very unique compared to a stock 996 system. As mentioned above it is loud so I even have to start the car in the morning with my garage door closed as I don't want to disturb my neighbors. But it is a performance vehicle and I like the way the car barks at higher RPM!

PSE mufflers are sought after as will valves open they provide very similar sound potential as the popular Gundo/Fister modified mufflers. I would suggest keeping them for their mild/wild potential and upgrading further upstream. If you are after burble/overrun, you are going to have to ditch the factory cats. On the plus side, this is the biggest restriction point on the car so you will gain a noticeable amount of performance, especially if you get an ECU tune to maximize the performance potential while shutting off the imminent CEL from deleting the cats. PM heading your way, we can chat about the options if you'd like
