Window not coming down when opening the door
I have a 04 996. Sat for a while. Noticed that the window does not come down when I attempt to open or close the door. Window works fine up and down. It does have some grinding noise on the way up?
Is its a:
1. Microswitch
2. Window regulator
3. Both
A. what is a fair cost to repair
B. Is this easy to do yourself
Thanks
Anthony

Need more information to diagnose the issue.
Is it just one window or both?
Is it the same while using the inner handle and outer handle?
It could be a micro switch or it could be that the window drop needs to be reset. There is a procedure somewhere here. I've never done it but I believe it is sometimes necessary after the battery has been disconnected.

Hi,
Thanks. It's just the driver side window passenger is fine. Same if using inner handle and outer handle-it doesn't move
How do you reset the drop? Is this the same as setting the window up and down setting by holding the switch?
Thanks

Reset the lifter motor:
1. get inside the car and shut the door.
2. turn the ignition to second position
3. roll the window completely in down *window open* position
4. roll the window all the way to closed position and continue to hold the window switch in up position for 5 seconds.

A micro-switch has stopped working on your door latch.
Replacing the entire door latch will certainly fix this issue.
Some replace the micro-sw and that's not the path that I chose.
Your regulator should be fine if your motor has no hesitation moving the window up and down.

Window Regulator
I had same problem and replaced the lock mechanism and microswitch but it did not fix. Local mechanic rolled window down halfway and pulled upwards on glass which moved up fairly easily. He said this showed the regulator needed changed. I put a new one in and voila!, it was fixed.

Are the 996 regulators the same as Boxters?

I'm sure you could find a regulator cheaper online. I'm new so I'm not sure who everyone uses around here but it looks like ecstuning has a variety of regulators for less.

Yes, however the lower stop for the window is different between the 911s and Boxsters. There is a small clip that must be removed so that the lowest point acts as the stop for the motor/window regulator's travel.
Some people (let's say perhaps me) figure this out after everything is completely reassembled and realize that the window is not going down all the way...
When my window regulator was bad, the window did not drop properly when opening and closing the door. Good luck!

Thank you all. Just FYI it was the regulator that was bad. I had shop install. I think he robbed me. Paid 200.00 (from Porsche) for part and 360.00 to install. That was 4 hours of labor at 90.00 per hour. I think it should have been like 2.5 hrs but oh well at least I can open and close my window and door.
