Model: 996.2 C4S Coupe
Model Year: 2002
Color: Silver
Interior Color: Graphite Grey
Mileage: 80K
Transmission: Tip
Notable Options: Litronic lights, full leather, heated seats, rear window wiper, power lumbar supports, 6-CD, sport steering wheel,
Notable Upgrades: none -- it is bone stock.

Service History/Manuals (Complete, Partial, None): Partial. Only the CarFax and dealer maintenance records (almost nothing, they have used Indy)
Condition of vehicle: Excellent (about a 98/100). One minor scratch on front spoiler, a couple of nicks on the ignition key plastic surround. All systems and everything work correctly. Tires and brakes were new.
PPI: Yes, the local Indy Porsche repair has been around for over 40 years. The owner drives a 996.1 with over 200K miles and did the inspection himself. Only a couple of yellow warnings about the PSM from the Durametric scan/readout.
Recommended maintenance: get a 2nd key
IMS Bearing Status: Unknown. However the Tip transmission is a "remanufactured" one so there is some hope that the bearing was also done at the same time the trans is installed. No oil wetness at all. Indy recommends to service the IMSB upon next trans removal. Will change oil often, inspect drain lug / filter each time, and drive it like a Porsche

Asking Price: $25,700
Purchase Price: $25,000
Purchase Date: 2/24/2017
Where Purchased: San Diego
Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

General Notes: I would like to suggest that mileage on Porsches is not as big a factor as people may think. More important is condition of the car, records, PPI, and the cost of the list of maintenance that is due. I took my '82 911 to 295K miles, the 968 to 200K and going strong. The same will happen with 996 --- if -- required maintenance and repair is done. Therefore I think that escalated pricing for lower mileage isn't a good value. Paying lower prices for high mileage is a good deal.

Syncro: I agree 110% I had a 04' CTT with 143k (I think) sold with about 160k, the current owner (4th total owner) still has it and it's been great, just basic maintenance. It had a ton of records, upgrades, and replaced parts. That will go at least 250k miles before anything else major is needed. Everything from the GPS, air suspension, turbo's etc worked flawlessly. I actually miss the truck. She had upgrades to boot, it was fast (slightly larger turbos, larger injectors, ecu tune, sport cats, etc) even with the mods being done after 100k miles she still was good.

That's probably true for us enthusiasts, but it's a fact that most of the world values things differently. As cars approach and pass 100k miles, people assume they are going to start requiring a lot of costly repairs, and also at that point they are somewhat old and out of style, so people just place less value on them.

I've always felt that time is actually more of a killer than mileage, since a lot of plastic and rubber pieces, paint, etc. start to fall apart after a certain amount of time in the sun, exposure to seasonal temperature extremes, and so on, regardless of how much the car actually moves.

So I totally agree, I'd rather buy a well-maintained, newer car with a ton of miles on it, rather than an older car with no miles. And when shopping for a car I don't worry too much about mileage; I care more about age and condition. But the reality is that for 95+% of people, a car with >100k miles is NEVER going to command the same price as one with significantly fewer miles.

This can be a great thing for enthusiasts, since you can frequently find an owner that's afraid of their high-mileage car and take it from them at a pretty low price.
