Parking Magnet?

Well, I just pulled the selfsame act we are all complaining about...I just came to Germany on a business trip and parked my plebian Ford Mondeo diesel station wagon between a Bentley Continental coupe and a 911 TT. LOL, my rental is, at least, sparklingly new. I am sharing that section of the garage with a recent Carrera Coupe in White/tan, the 911 TT in black on black, a black on black Panamera, 2 Range rovers, the Bentley, 2 AMG Mercedes, and I swear I saw a new GT3 pulling out of a spot clear across the garage...it had a GT3 spoiler anyway. Germany sucks (especially when you are jonesing for your own 911)! So many Porsches around (and a dealer around the corner from my hotel), I can't stop drooling. I think the Carrera and the Panamera were actually rentals...at about $900/day...both had license plate holders from a German rental company.

This is my preferred method - always plenty of unused spaces right near the entrance to the business. If there are only a couple of handicapped spaces available, I won't do it (you have to have a little respect), but 90% of the handicapped spaces sit empty 99% of the time, so really, where's the harm?

Edit: so I read the thread this time around...a lot of mini-van owners here (well a few, with families I take it)...sorry to hear that (van part, not family part) I told my gf that we are never getting one, a SUV or performance wagon, but no van's or crossovers here.

Whenever possible, always choose an end spot and hug the inside next to the curb. Then upon your return, always walk to the side of the car that's vulnerable to do a quick check for damage like some kind of paranoid freak before getting in and driving away. That's my ritual.

Thankfully, Californians are too lazy to walk the extra distance that parking next to a 911 in the far reaches of the lot would require.
