Cool. I'm a new 996 guy too and was thinking of joining as well. Post here how the meeting goes.

Depends...on the other people, yourself and what you expect. I too have been a member since I bought my car(2014). Have been to a few show and shine events. Seems to be kind a of clique that I feel I don't belong in but I have also met some nice people, as well. Give it a try and, hopefully, you will enjoy it. Heck I even got an invite to go to KC for a club breakfast from a fellow Rennlister!

I don't do most of the socials but I have made a lot of good friends from the track events which I do a lot of.

PCA has something for everyone really, depending on the chapter:
social events like breakfasts
drives / tours
autocross
HPDE
Clubracing
(in order of addiction!)

Yes, it's worth joining for the events alone (autocross and other competitive / timed events, TSD rallying, and casual PCA-organized drives) as well as being a great source of news about other regional events (for us out West, the California Festival of Speed, the Coronado Speed Festival).

San Diego Region also has a number of social events. The complexion of the members can vary noticeably between driving events vs. social events (some of the more senior members who might not want to autocross still attend many social events, and the autocross crowd vs. the concours crowd will also have different mixes of people).

I'm not nearly as active as some of the other folks in the San Diego Region, but PCA is definitely worth the money as far as I'm concerned. The only other ticket for autocross around here is SCCA, and SCCA autocrosses are very different from PCA...the amount of track time for PCA AX was significantly more than the track time in the 1 or 2 SCCA autocrosses I have participated in. If you're interested in autocrossing seriously - and working your way up through the nationwide ranking, SCCA is the way to go; if you want to autocross at a club level for fun, PCA is the ticket. Plus, nearly everyone in SCCA AX drives Miatas, and where's the fun in that?

You may also want to check out POC. PCA is a good fit for me.

Wife and I joined PCA for the societies and the drives. We've even gone to other section's socials when we've been traveling, including San Diego. Lots of interesting people, good mix of folks. We've done a DE as well. Had a great time. As someone said, there's something for nearly everyone at PCA...T

The monthly magazine, Panorama, is worth the cost of annual dues. As others have said, depending on your chapter, PCA offers something for every interest.
Get involved and make new Porsche friends. You'll enjoy it.

Member since forever. Panorama magazine and DE track events are worth the membership cost. I also go to maybe one or two PCA social event a year.

What region are you in? Some are quite active, others not so much.

I am in the Vegas chapter. My wife and I will be going to our first breakfast on Sunday morning. We are on the wait list to do the Porsches and Parks with the San Diego chapter.

I agree with all of the above. I've been a member for 5 or 6 years. Except for a few autocross events, I'm not a club kind of guy. The local and national magazines alone are worth the membership. There are discounts as well and who knows, you may enjoy some of the many outings and events they have.

Been a member since getting into Porsches in 2000. The Panorama subscription is well worth it. Going to the Parades are an experience not be missed either - great fun, people and scenery. Also some insures require you to be a PCA member (notably Leland-West/American Modern Home). And yes they do check.

Yes! While I don't spend nearly the time I'd like with our local region..... They are great people with a love for the brand.... And the club provides a great resource for information about your car. Between the driving events and social events is a great value!

I'm still really new to the Porsche world myself. Honestly, PCA has been one of the biggest surprises for me. I have been part of other vehicle social groups, and did not expect to get as much value out of PCA as I've had.

Observations:
1 - other members have been really great and even provided invaluable assistance
2 - food at the social events was MUCH better that I expected (your experience may vary)
3 - DE's are really awesome and very well run
