Default Sport Brake Pads - Option #448 - Discontinued????

Went to do my front brakes today and discovered that the pads I received from the parts store were not the same as the brake pads in my calipers.

My calipers are black and have a small Brembo logo proudly forged on the bottom egde, and the standard Porsche script on the side which is visible for all to see through the rim spokes. Once removed, I saw the pads have both Textar and Brembo logos on them with Porsche part number 996.351.930.16 printed on them, but there is also a Textar T4045FF part number stamped into the actual metal part of the pad. Also of note, there are no balance weights on my pads like there are on the overwhelming majority of 996 front pads I see for sale on eBay or other sites???

My pads look like this, but with Brembo logo and a Brembo number included on the metal plate on the back of the pad, rather than the Textar metal plate. My pad has the same stampings in the metal along the bottom edge, though...

Strangely, neither Pelican nor Suncoast parts returns any info on either part number during search so I felt there must be something different about my brakes. Digging deeper into my option codes, it turns out my car was shipped from the factory with 448 for "Sport Brake Pads." Web search was very disappointing as I was able to find ONLY one set of pads with these part number for sale anywhere, and they have apparently been sitting on a shelf for some time and were for sale on ebay for $90. I went ahead and bought them, just to at least secure a set... And ebay advanced search for sold listing revealed a similar Textar set that sold a while back, which were listed as New Old Stock... I'm not thrilled about having to put in pads that have sat around on a shelf for who-knows-how-long.

It is starting to look as if the 996 code "448 - Sport Brake Pads" have been discontinued!!?? Does anyone know this for sure? Or is there another part number that has come along to replace these?

If discontinued, it seems replacing brake pads on this car could turn out to be a constant struggle for me in the days to come and I might be best off getting my hands on a set of standard calipers for next time, so I can buy regular pads moving forward...

BTW, call to local dealer revealed that part number is not in any of their databases at all...

It's as if these pads do not exist.

It sounds like this is just a Factory option for "Sport" pads only... I will guess that any good "Sport" pad will do. Textar has always made a range of pads for our car... just see what they have as a "Standard" pad and compare it to the "Sport" pad... I will further venture a guess that they will be the exact same pad but with a slightly higher Friction coefficient.

Could it be those are Brembo pads?
I found this catalog http://www.brembo.com/en/Varie/Bremb...sCatalogue.pdf
Page 21 of 58 lists a 996 sports brake pad with and ending number of 16
So I looked it up here https://www.carid.com/brembo/sport-f...7-b314-16.html
The picture shown is not correct, but when you look at the dimensions, it is exactly like your pad.

Here are the front factory sport brake pads:

https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...96SPORTFR.html

The current pad number for the 996 is 996.351.930.30. Both the pad and the backing plate say "Textar" (TEXTAR T4128). So maybe it's an updated version.

If you have the true sport brake pad, there should be a green stipe on the top. That's the easiest way to see if it's a SPORT pad.

The rear sport pads are discontinued.

Thanks for posting that Brembo info. Interesting that Textar appears to have manufactured that pad, but that Brembo adds their logo... Two OEM brands on the same pad, LOL!

I'm going to call the Porsche dealer in my German hometown tomorrow, just to see if they have better info on these pads and a possible replacement with the same shape.

The actual pad and lower 2/3's are the same for the two pads, but the extra metal at the top makes me leary of even trying to put these in my calipers.... I'd much rather use the EBCs than the new-old-stock pads I just bought. Tempted to get out the hacksaw and go to work with a bench grinder on the EBCs to make them the right overall shape.... (just kidding, kind of).

Thanks! There was no green stripe on the old pad that I saw. I put them back together until I got this sorted.

Interesting that these are not recommend for street use per the link... They've been very good on the street during my ownership.

Porsche sport brake pads are:
Front 99635198000
Rear 99635298000

The front is still available. The rear was (or still is) NLA last time I checked but it seems autoatlanta still carry them but that could be a catalog mistake. Need to be verified.

Do you know how these pads relate to 99635198000?

The extra stuff on the top of your new pads are there to help eliminate brake squeal. If they fit... which they should they should work just fine.
The Red Stuff pads are about 15% better pads compared to stock pads... and also listed as "Low Dust"... should be fine to use.

You can use the pads with the larger later style backing plate in your caliper if you use mounting hardware 996.351.959.01:

http://www.paragon-products.com/Pors...351.959.01.htm

or you can keep your existing hardware and use the Pagid Sport pads:
