HUD is the only way to go... I hear there's a new retrofit system (all you have to do is replace your windshield with the new unit) coming out that's only $25k... If you're a serious DE enthusiast, you'll get it...

That is why I recommended it only for peeps running roll bars, where you can wire tie it on.

Orherwise the other mirror mount reco seems like a solid choice for non roll bar peeps as it's clamped down securely to your rear view mirror.

RAM sells this base; I installed it using the front left bolt on the passenger seat on my 986. There's a stout (3/4", maybe?) aluminum bar that you cut to the appropriate height, and then you install whatever accessory you want on the end. It's rock-solid and uses no suction cups...

It's not just PCA that doesn't allow suction cup mounts; they're illegal according to the CA vehicle code.

I think the OP wanted a mount where he could record his driving. Don't know if the above will achieve that purpose or not.

You might like the Port-o-Rotary then. Too bad it's been discontinued

Haha! I'm still flabbergasted that they didn't include a headphone jack just to have a 2nd speaker.... Wireless headphones? Like I need another freakin device to have to charge.

I need to read this at home. I am getting strange looks at work as I am laughing out loud at the responses.

I do like the HUD suggestion but believe that might cost more than the car is worth.

I may go the low tech route - leave it in my pocket. I assume the GPS will still work. Although I do like that unit that clamps to the rearview mirror.

I will wait and see what others are doing at the track. I have seen a number of go-pro's mounted with suction cups but haven't looked at what people are doing for cell phone mounts.

Thanks for the suggestions!!! All of them

I have an iPhone 5C with the Harry's Lap Time Grand Prix app. I also have a Dual XGPS 10 Hz Bluetooth GPS.

I had a piece of metal lying around, and in a few minutes I turned it into a phone mount. The metal is about 1 mm thick, and I bent it at a 90-degree angle to make an L. I ground down the sharp corners and wrapped one end in electrical tape.

I purchased a spare case for the phone from Wal-Mart, drilled some holes, and zip-tied the case to the mount.

I can slide the mount between the instrument cluster housing and the top of the dashboard. It's not bolted in place, but it's held in there pretty tight. Slip it in when I want to record a session; pull it out when finished.

Here is a recent video:
