Mk1 C2 interrior rattles
I'm currently in the market for a Mk1 C2. So far I test drove two cars, and both of them would rattle when going over bumps. Not sure if the noise is structural or coming from interior panels. Are Mk1s known to have rattles?
Thanks in advance!

Here we go, new forum, as always need to deal with some bullying... It's kinda hard to search effectively if you don't know what to search for.
So... apparently there is a TSB - 6420 "Noises at the Windshield and Rear window" that deals with fixing window noises.
Are there any other common sources of noise?

It's a very vague question. I don't notice any noise in my '99 DD. My '99 track car squeaks rattles and squeals like you wound believe. And that's just from getting into it.

There are very few cars in the area that I can test drive, so I'm just trying to figure out if I'm wasting my time looking for a 996 without and squeaks and rattles.

We have an early 98 cab and when w got it the sun visor rattled as you describe - if you follow the rattle it is an easy fix if this is loose. I have not had any other rattles or noise the car is solid and No its not known for its rattles or creaks

My seat clunks, sunroof creaks a bit and I have this really weird noise like a relay buzzing sometimes, which I mean to video and ask some of the wise members what they think it might be.
Mostly I wind down the windows and listen to the exhaust noise, everything else goes just melts into insignificance.

After all these years it will be more car by car than anything structureal. The roads the cars have been driven on will take their toll on everything from suspension to interior tightness. Some will be easy to fix (sunroof, loose seats), others get more complicated or expensive. Bad roads wll magnify the problem and even even if the car is tight when you buy, driving it on crapy roads will soon end that. Time wll age a car as much as mleage but in often different ways. Instead of things wearing out, they die from atrophy. Find a car you like, have extra money in your pocket to fix the things the car needs or will soon need, and then drive the hell out of iit while always knowing you've just bought a used car.

Well, I guess, what I'm really trying to find out is, if it is possible to find a 996 with 50 - 70k miles that will still feel as solid as a new car, given that it is well maintained. Or perhaps (hopefully not) noises and rattles will always be there given that it's a 15 - 18 year old car by now. There are very few cars in the area that I can test drive, so I'm just trying to figure out if I'm wasting my time looking for a 996 without and squeaks and rattles.
Yes, keep looking take your time. Test drive a new one and try lots of old ones. The 996 is special. If you fall in love the rattles won't be a big deal. If you don't, find something newer. Good luck and keep us updated.

I bought a 2000 with 24k miles on the clock and about the only noise it had was creaking stabilizer bars and the occasional rattle of the heat shield around the mufflers. 17k miles later, I've licked the front end creaking, but the dang heat shield still rattles.
The interior has been bullet proof (I can't believe I just said that....).
