^^^
That was part of my PPI inspection.
Thank God! I didn't want to have to do it myself.

I'll be forced to change my habits. Thanks!

You've made a common - and understandable mistake. The 996 was Porsche's first experiment with air-cooled indicator lights unlike the early 911's, the 912, the 914, the 356, and all previous Porsche vehicles which use liquid-cooled blinkers.

Many "purists" have an issue with Porsche moving to an air-cooled design - they often scoff at the ridiculousness of air cooling, since it obviously limits the power output of the turn signal bulbs and makes the entire model year lineup very electrically inefficient.

It remains to be seen if abandoning blinker fluid, which has been the hallmark of Porsche engineering since the end of WWII, will be a positive move for Porsche.

Purists have also expressed disdain that the Boxster shares the same air-cooled indicator lights as the more expensive 911.

Several years ago, my car suffered the dreaded blinker fluid/unicorn semen intermix failure. I'd go into detail---but I just can't talk about it. Even now...

I mistakingly used Mobile 1 blinker fluid from Walmart and now my 996 smokes after driving up steep hills. It smokes on normal roads too but I noticed a little more after traveling up at high elevations. Maybe if I installed a Turbo charged kit it would have stopped? At first I thought it was my coolant or water pump since my car was getting extremely hot at 181 F. (Based on the dash indicator) And so I was going to go buy some and noticed I had half of a gallon in the garage. I opened the coolant cap and noticed the coolant in the Porsche had turned a bright orange color. Yikes! And so I quickly added fresh new green antifreeze. I put the cap on and started the car for a few minutes. Turned it off and checked the coolant again... And too my horrors the coolant was now brown color... That means intermix!!!! Oh the humanity! And so I took it to a local shop. The shop had several Porsches out front for sell and So I figured he would know how to fix it. After a week he called and said the motor was locked up from the intermix and incorrect blinker fluid. I rushed over and my motor was removed and he showed me that the engine couldn't be repaired. I asked how much to fix and he replied "$20,000 for a new engine". I'm completely gutted and so I asked him to remount the motor. I paid him $800.00 and towed the car home. I cried in front of my wife and now we're traveling to Porsche to buy a new one. Yay me! My woman rocks!

Well if you take care of yourself like you do your car, no wonder your gallbladder revolted!

My 996tt uses Mezger blinkers, so I sleep well at night.
