I think Mobil destroys the 996 engines. At least from all the information on the m96 engine provided by LN engineering. So Motul 8100 Xcess or Joe Gibbs DT40.

Lol, tell my 125k car that, which has been used most of it's miles.
Let's not turn this thread into an oil debate.
Mobil has been holding a lot of rebates quite frequently lately. I wonder what is the motive behind this?
Thanks OP for another M1 rebate heads up.

still have 3 quarts in the frunk, added a bit today after some canyon and open freeway driving at lunch
good to hear some guys with high mileage on M1, I've been a little unsure about the topic lately. And thanks for the rebate!

Mobil 1 is again having a rebate program. Thought I would put the word out.
I should stop there, but I'm stupid: So, Oh boy, deep breath, serenity now.....Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;
That means buy a 5 quart jug for about $27 and get $12 back, net $15, that's $3.00/quart. Buy two 5 qt. jugs. Figure 10 quarts for an oil change, that's $30 in oil, an $8 mann filter and $.25 crush washer. Equals $38.25 to change my oil w Mobil 1 0w40.
Best price I can get for JG DT40 is $129.00 for 12 quarts delivered to my door. That's $10.75/qt. Ten quarts is $107.50 in oil, $8.00 filter, $.25 washer, that's $115.75 for DT40 oil change.
That's $77.50 cheaper w/ Mobil 1. Or I can change my oil 3 times w/ Mobil 1 and have a dollar left over for every DT40 oil change.
I had switched to DT40 my last 2 oil changes, but then my clutch went, and I did the whole IMSB, AOS, RMS to boot.
I didn't have any DT40 on hand so my shop put in Mobil 1. And I believe I'm going to stick with it. Plus I use Mobil 1 in my Mercedes and Audi. Just makes things easier.
I'm not debating which oil to use, just highlighting cost difference if you take advantage of Mobil rebates when they come up
Mobil 1 has this rebate twice a year and limits you to 10 quarts (2 rebates) per household. Using friends or neighbors addresses and you can stock up. Disclaimer: not that I would ever do that.
Moral of story...want to go best price, choose Mobil 1. Want best oil (arguably, let's not go there), choose DT40.
Now I'm waiting for all h..ell to break loose....
