Default OH no... Another oil thread ?

Ok, flame on...

I heard some good stuff about using Motul 8100 x-cess 5w-40

I searching, I found it on Amazon ~150 for 4x 5 liter bottles, so it is priced ~ $30 higher than M1 and about 30% below DT-40

Anyone have any experience or thoughts about this?

Buy a liter, send it in for UOA, and go from there. Data doesn't lie, except when it does but then you don't really know it so it's almost as good as the truth.

If you are going to post the results on RL you may even be able to crowd source the cost!

I know at least from research in the competition threads, if I wasn't going to use JG products then Amsoil would be my next choice.

Mobil 1 5W50

or

Castrol Edge 5W40

These are the two brands I can get in NZ. Won't older motors need slightly thicker oil?

Most of the recent UOAs we've seen on Motul have been showing a lot of high shear breakdown. Reformulation has been suspected.

It's almost 100% group III petroleum base. Castrol Edge Syntec is a very close zinc and detergent package and it's about half price. I don't have anything to do with Castrol, but since I can't find PAO group IV, I'll prolly use the Castrol. Will never use a Mobil 1 product ever again. Evar.

The Motul 5-40 x-cess was recommended when I purchased my 996 . Two other Pcar indies I've visited recommended it as well.

LN Engineering experts on the m96 engine, recommend Motul 8100 Excess. Their article states they use Motul when they aren't using Joe Gibbs DT40. I would say use Motul 8100 Excess if you can't get DT40.
