clicking noises coming from suspension/transmission
Over the first month of ownership, I have been loving my car (2002 C4S), but over the past week I have had two strange noises...
1/ started the car up, shifted into reverse and when letting up on the clutch, I heard (and felt) a very loud "thunk" noise in the rear of the car. I cannot replicate it every time I shift into reverse, but it has happened multiple times now.
2/ made a hard right turn the other day and heard a clicking noise coming from (I think) the rear drivers wheel well. No noise on left turns and can sometimes hear it while going over bumps. It is a ticking noise and is directly tied to my speed and only audible over 8mph or so.
Stopped at a gas station to see if I had a nail in tire it was so loud and found nothing - even took the wheel off. This am, nothing coming from drivers side, but faint clicking from passenger rear wheel well (or I actually may just be going crazy and paranoid).
Just ran a dozen searches this am and not finding exact answers. Are these two noises related? Are my CV joints shot? Other ideas?

What Craig said... Also the "thunk/clunk" could be your tranny mount bushing(s)...better check it. Good luck

Removed both rear wheels to inspect and cv boots seemed to be in good shape (though there could be issues still). Cleaned rims, brakes and reinstalled wheels. Tightened up my lugs and took a test drive. Clicking noise is gone and I can't replicate it.
We will see if it returns, but I'm a happy camper for now.

Did you get the clunk after washing the car?
Just asking because mine scared the Hell out of me last weekend. I washed everything and then just put it back in the garage without a test drive. Yea I know DUMB
The next time i got in and went to back up CLUCK as the brakes freed themselves up from just the tiny amount of rust left over from cleaning.
But it could be bad Trans mounts.
When you have it up in the air grab a hold of the drive axles and give them a good shake sideways. This will let you know if there is any play in the U-joints.
