Default MAF replacement time?

Over the past while have noticed the following items:

1. Erratic idle - sometime steady at 800rpm others time will creep up to 1000rpm
2. Air injection pump seems to come on a lot at stop lights
3. ABS/PSM failure lights came on the other day while sitting at a stop light

I have cleaned the MAF and made sure everything is tight, so I don't think it is a vacuum leak.

Does thi sound like a MAF that's starting to go. I believe that it's the original one...

Yes, the hunting idle is a good indication. As far as a vacuum leak - even though everything is tight, a split or holed hose might still be responsible.

No diagnostic codes at all?

Is there another RL/PCA member nearby who might be willing to swap MAFs for a day?

If you DO decide to buy a new maf, see the Bosch vehicle part finder URL: boschautoparts.com/VehiclePartFinder/Pages/VehiclePartFinder.aspx - and then search the resulting part number on Amazon.

What year is your car and do you have Durametric? Any error codes?

I had those symptoms in my Boxte', and took out out the MAF sensor and cleaned it. Cured all the symptoms.

You might want to also post in the Turbo forum.

You can monitor your rpm, MAF and O2 sensor reading during idle. With no other electrical load, the MAF should read aboit 1.3v amd 15-24kg/hr.

Have you also tried cleaning the throttle body? You can also try e-gas recalibration. Leave key to last position before crank for 60 seconds ith foot off the gas pedal then turn remove key and you're done.
