Default Integrated Radar Detector?

Hi Guys,

Just bought a 2003 996TT x50 and I notice there is a strange sensor on the bumper and I think its related to these two lights on the dash.

Does anyone know anything about these devices? The previous owner had no idea what they were.

A closer look at the objects in the front grille would help. Could be laser jammers.

There's also a **** or button by the driver's right knee that isn't stock - since that carpet panel pops off, pop it off and see what's hiding back there.

Wow, good call! I didn't even see that ****. I'll shoot an up close picture of the sensor tonight.

Thanks.

Congrats on a bad-*** purchase, incidentally. I hate you, but only in the way it's appropriate to hate a stranger of whom you are jealous.

If it helps, the car is going into the shop for 2 new front tires, an oil change, and probably at least 1 wheel bearing. So I will be welcomed to the elite Porsche repair bill club shortly.

Nope, my disdain for you is still strong. You damn two-percenters are making us three-percenters look poor.

Lol, this is nothing. Come back when you've spent either additional $20k in modded parts and/or repairs.

Welcome.

Based on the red areas of the box, it looks like a laser jammer to me. That's my guess at least.

Any other shots of the car?

Full album is here. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8m1bye2y7...LCWASisFa?dl=0

So far I know the car has a GICA tune (not sure which or how old), ems air cleaner, headers, and full exhaust done. Pulls nicely but hard to say for sure until I get the dry rot front tires replaced.

The more I look at it, I think this is a K40 system, the **** and whats behind the panel will tell all tonight.

Looks similar to the k40 I have on my turbo. It is useless now with all the radar cruise and blindspot sensors. Goes off constantly

I had to disable laser on my detector - the damn Audis are everywhere. Thankfully, many CA LEO are still too lazy to get out of the car, so KA is still really useful.

It's an older K40 laser diffuser.

Spot on, 2000 series, there are sensors behind the bumper and the item on the bumper is a diffuser. The system is older than dirt, I'll probably pull it out one weekend and replace it with a mirror mount v1.

One sensor is bad so the system is useless.
