996 convertible top opens by itself
Hi, back into summer mode and hardtop removed but a new electrical gremlin has moved in over the winter; the soft top now opens by itself, some time after the car is turned off and locked. Normal soft top operation is fine either with the dash switch or the key fob. Any input gratefully received. Thanks

thanks fpb111, Battery is good. I did have a few "issues" after the car went to the local independent to have the cam solenoid changed; starting problems and not charging. Independent changed battery, alternator and starter and had it on diagnostics for 2 hours and couldn't fix it. After reading on here I asked them to check they'd put the engine earth strap back on properly and although they insisted it was fine, they replaced it and all the problems went away. I'm not sure if any of the electronics got "upset" by starting and charging currents trying to find alternative paths to earth. There were a couple of occasions when the windows were all down on the car before we took the hard top off which may have been related.

That is really odd. My first instinct would be to check the door key switch. A malfunctioning switch there would make the car think you were trying to open the top with the key.

No tequila for me. The stupid thing has done it again, twice more since above, most recently I left the car in gear and the hand brake off (thinking that it wouldn't allow the roof to lower!). This morning it did it again without me knowing and then it rained! I've now dried it out, luckily no water pooled around the security system controller. I have now pulled the fuse for the convertible drive motor (fuse D3), but I need to solve this.
