Help! My 996 cab just broke down in an intersection

Holy crap. Glad it's sorted out, but holy crap. 6 weeks and about $4000 for a $1000 repair.
I'd like to fault the dealer, no codes and won't go into gear makes it seem like the shifter would be the obvious place to look, but none of the guesses here guessed that.

Also, I don't believe any of us are certified Porsche mechanics working in a franchised dealership that charges top dollar because they are the experts. So, no, I'm not letting the dealership off the hook that easy. In fact, I fault the dealership more so than the inbred hillbilly transmission "mechanic". The dealership is the one that put the fear of God into OP, making him think he was in for a mega-dollars repair.

I'm kind of a jerk, but I think once everything is said and done, I'd cruise back over to the dealership and have a discussion about their initial diagnosis...something along the lines of "tell me more about the part where you wanted twenty five thousand dollars to fix a busted shifter."
This deserves something more than "well, they just got it wrong...s**t happens."
All of us have had the unfortunate experience of paying to fix something only to find out that it wasn't the root cause, but this takes the cake. B3Freak's photo in post 307 suddenly doesn't seem so far off the mark.

The dealership just told me that the torque converter went bad and took the transmission with it.
They said they will send an appeal or whatever to Porsche to see if they will pay for it but it would cost around 25000 dollars to fix my 26000 dollar Porsche. I can't even function I'm so mad.
They are checking on used parts as well. Anybody got a torque converter and tip transmission they are looking to sell?

As an aside. Carpet out for some reason in a cab is easy to diagnose. Not flood damage. Clogged drains up front and a good rainstorm and you will figure out how to get the carpet out and how to clean the drains. I learned that in my first week of 996 cab ownership.

It really is a shame you didn't throw the original tranny on the flatbed with the car. There is a chance the transmission specialist made sure the original tranny is no longer fixable. He certainly doesn't want a law suit...
Not to cast aspersions but he may have "forgot" about it while he found suitable replacement parts. Hard to prove the dealer wrong when all you have is a bunch of parts that somebody else took apart.

Devil's Advocate here, but it is possible the first tranny was toast all along.
Then the second tranny was incorrectly installed by the"mechanic" and failed as well. It could be two unfortunate events with 2 distinct and separate causes.
The fact the Dealer found no codes on tranny 1 is compelling.
The fact that the "mechanic" didn't know what he was/is doing is obvious.
The important question is, "What's Kalash's return policy?"
Finally, since Karma is a b!tch...when is the OP going to change his screen name and get rid of that KK? It's cursed...

This is about to join the esteemed ranks of such epic threads as "N20 in Gixxer Tank" and "Ran Garden Hose in my Mustang's Engine to Clean it, now it doesn't start???!!!".
And by the way KK, where are your pictures? 1st transmission in in pieces, go and fulfill that part of the deal man!
