Need help with Schnell intake install
Hey guys,
I just purchased a Schnell intake for my 2002 996 C2 Cab. It did have a new engine installed after an IMSB failure. Anyway, the silicone hose fits fine however the red cap does not fit the hole it is meant to cover. The black rubber cover that goes over the red cap does fit the hole however. Is that sufficient coverage?
Also, there is a vacuum hose that comes off of the original hose. Can I just cap it with something and be done with it or does it do something important?
Thanks!

is your car a tip?
if yes, look here: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...onic-hose.html
flip the red cap and put IN the hole. then black cap over red.

Tip folks: What does that breather line for the tip do, exactly? Any chance that this is somehow related to OP's issue of his transmission not...transmitting...power from the engine to the wheels?

The thought had crossed my mind, howevever I'm 99.98% sure the two are not related.

Me, too...but in my experience, most coincidences are actually related events with overlooked commonalities.
Was there any indication on the instrument panel of an error/warning condition? There are a number of panic/limp responses the Tip can have if it stops receive the inputs it needs to operate properly, but I believe the instrument cluster displays a message in such events.

Well, everyone refers to that as a "breather," but it's connected to the intake so it should actually be pulling some vacuum. I couldn't find any reference to it online, and I don't have any of my 996 reference stuff here. I was hoping one of the "pros" might pipe up with a comment...

Yeah, I've installed intakes on previous cars that required a filter for that little hose. Never had an issue before but perhaps the Porsche is a little more particular about what's going on.
My question is, should I mention the intake to the dealer? It's not like I have a warranty I'm worried about. I'm just afraid they might focus on that as the root cause rather than properly diagnosing it. Thoughts?

They are not present on every Tip car. My MY2000 C2 Cab Tip does not have that extra hose. When I was thinking about doing an aftermarket intake, the site mentioned that it may or may have it. I don't know what the function is or why some have it and some don't.

My entire engine was replaced in 2012 which would explain why mine is different.
