Question about the key on 2000 996 C2
Hey guys this is probably a stupid question but I'm new so I'm gonna ask it lol. My car came with the two original keys that seem to only have one button to lock/unlock the doors. I'm trying to find info but was this an option? If I program with a newer 996 key would it be possible to open the trunk from it?
I am doing all the necessary upgrades to ensure reliability and drive ability on the key but figured a nicer newer looking key would be nice too. I guess I'm just jealous of all you being able to open your trunk from your key fob

Be glad you have the superior Mk1 996 cable setup. Plenty of people start thread here; 'help, my battery is dead, and I can't get into my car, and can't open the frunk!'.

There's at least one "help, I can't get into my [frunk/engine bay]" thread a week - and this week, some poor dude's trunk release button broke free and dropped into the enclosure.
I never had any issues with the electrically actuated frunk on my Boxster, but I definitely prefer having a cable release. Having a dead battery due to an alternator issue could leave you on the side of the road without an easy way for AAA to get you up and running again...this is one of those rare instances where low-tech may be superior to high-tech...
