991.2 - all turbo engines
I know this is the 996 forum. Just thought it was interesting that
Porsche has dropped displacement to 3 liters on their 991.2 and turbo'ed the entire model line.
I remember when Saab and Volvo were early in the Turbocharging game. I also recall that with either car if you came in from an extended highway trip and simply shut off the engine the turbo bearings would cook. You had to remember to let the engine idle for a couple minutes before shutting it off.
Current turbo engines have a set up where the oil continues to circulate through the bearings after shut off. The early Volvo/Saab turbo engines one was lucky to get 50,000 miles without needing a turbo replacement.

I hope turbo cooling would be a thing of the past. I was amazed that my 03 Evo didn't have a built in turbo timer. I used to let the car cool down for 5 minutes before the TT would shut it down.

IIRC the newer Turbos either have water cooled turbos or an electric oil pump that circulates oil even after the engine has been turned off and this 2 minute idle before shut off is no longer required.
I would expect the new all turbo Porsche models to have something similar to help ensure turbo longevity.
