My drive routine for the readiness reset is to set the cruise control on the highway for 55mph for 30 minutes and then same thing on the return drive back. All but the evap system will be ready IF the parts are in good condition. If a part is marginal, the ECU needs more time to calculate if that part is good enough to make that system ready or to throw the check engine light. The longer it takes for a system (except evap, that can take a week or more) to become ready, the worse shape the parts in that system are.

Heh. I can't imagine being able to drive for 30 minutes in one direction without having to slow a single time. That must be nice.

I do it at night between one city and another. It's unnerving because transports will be whizzing by but it has to stay below 62mph (100km/h) to test the catalytic efficiency.

Maybe we can get VW to write a software patch for us...

My catalyst monitor is now ready, so just the evap is not ready

Is there a special part of the process to get that one done?

The evap will take time because the ECU will pressurise the fuel tank and measure the pressure drop over a period of time but for that the car need to be stopped but running. So it takes a veryong time, sometimes a week or more. Therefore, best thing to do it drive it with a tank that's between 1/3 and 2/3 full. Too much or too little fuel in the tank and the tests can not be completed by the ECU.

Ok... I was searching for "readiness monitor reset drive cycles" I found three that cover most domestic (EPA) teasing measures:

Start engine, idle cold for approx. 2 min, 10 secs.

Accelerate to 20-30 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs.

Accelerate to 40-60 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins.

Decelerate and come to a stop. Idle in gear* for approx 5 mins.

1..As soon as the engine starts, idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defrost on. OBDII checks oxygen sensor heater circuits, air pump andEVAP purge.

2. Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle. OBDII checks for ignition misfire, fuel trim and canister purge.

3. Hold at a steady state speed of 55 mph for three minutes.
OBDII monitors EGR, air pump, O2 sensors and canister purge.

4. Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch. OBDII checks EGR and purge functions.

5. Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at half throttle. OBDII checks misfire, fuel trim and purge again.

6. Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes.
OBDII monitors catalytic converter efficiency, misfire, EGR, fuel trim, oxygen sensors and purge functions.

7. Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking. OBDII makes a final check of EGR and canister purge.

just hold the following RPM ranges from 2-5 minutes:

Idle
1500
2000
2500
3000
Idle

the checks usually happen before the 5 minutes is up, but without a scan tool hooked up you won't know when it happens.

I used the middle one on my car and it worked relatively well.
Notice how this one explains what the system is trying to check... Might be helpful for specific items...

Texas is where civilization began. Ever hear of San Antonio? Austin? Dallas? Houston?

Are you sniffing glue??
These various interconnections mean that history, civilization and writing all begin at the same time. That time is about 3100 BC. Mesopotamia and Egypt: 3100 BC.
In about 3200 BC the two earliest civilizations develop in the region where southwest Asia joins northeast Africa.

certainly not in that god forsaken place know as Texas
Please, please secede from the USA. That way we can be done with wackos like Ted Cruz and you

anyone, how does the blocker work???

Texas is one of the few places I've been where there is a historical monument and surrounding buildings to commemorate a spectacularly lost battle.

The day escrow closed on our family farm in Texas - ensuring I would never somehow wind up living there - was a great day indeed. I would drive a Prius before I'd move to Texas.
