Repair or replace windshield crack?

I got one like that in my two month old Mercedes ML 350. I thought it was done for. I had one of the windshield repair outfits come to grind it out and pressure fill it for ~$50. It was still there when we sold it 10 years later. They won't repair if it is in drivers sight line. YMMV
If you track it probably new is better.

Mine started that way a few months ago. Turned into a 2-foot long crack on Monday. I'm having it replaced tomorrow morning. I should have had it filled when i first got the chip.

^^^ I believe that varies by state. In CA, most don't replace for free. It still costs your deductible. Most fix cracks free, though.

Fortunately my insurance pays 100% for crack repair or windshield replacement. They don't use salt on the roads on Colorado, but they use tons of gravel. I generally plan on getting a new windshield every year.
They do occasionally use magnesium chloride on I-70 in the winter. That's as nasty as sodium chloride, but in a different way. I try not to drive the Porsche if there's a chance that they will be using that stuff....

Thanks all 0 I think I'm going to do this myself:
My rationale is this:
1. replacing windshield should be an absolute last resort if it's really badly broken. Chances of introducing leaks, creaks etc ugh...
2. I don't want the hassle of dealing with filing the claim, scheduling some guy to come and repair the chip -
Video looks pretty straight forward...
Any one else try this themselves?

I had good luck with it on my wife's Altima. Make sure the alcohol doesn't fill the crack or it won't dry that is why he puts it on the rag and not on the window. Full sun helps a lot too.

SafeLite just left. He did a great job replacing my glass. If anyone is curious, factory glass and install was 900.00. My insurance only authorized 486.00 but I demanded Porsche OEM so I will have to eat the difference. But, I have a nice and clean windshield made in the Czech Republic.
