Akebono pads rock!
Just wanted to update everyone on a brake job I did with my friend last weekend. We put on 4 new Meyle rotors from ECS Tuning and Akebono Euro Ceramic pads that I got on ebay. Along with fluid, total cost for parts was right around $330.
Not counting some Abita beer :) Brakes perform great and pads stop car very well. A tad less cold bite than the Textars but once warmed up, no complaints at all and no fade. I also have not washed the car since then and virtually no brake dust. Obviously the rotors aren't Zimmermanns but we will see how they hold up. Most places have the Akebono pads for around $100 per axle but you can get them much cheaper if you look around. Combined with a fresh oil change with Valvoline 5w40 and shes a happy car! |

For those that don't know, Akebono is a major OEM pad supplier and one that Mclaren chose to supply their pads, for example on the P1.

OP, which part numbers did you get for the Akebono? I am seeing all kinds of different numbers for front and rear.

I put them on my car last week as well. Very happy with them and both axles with all new sensors was about $200 or so from Pelican.

Do they have the sensor holes pre-drilled on the pads like the stock pads?

Just picked up a set of EUR 776 ceramic pads for the front of my 99 C2, $35 on Amazon.

Interesting, I had those on my MB S550 and regretted getting them. The car could not lock the wheels if life depended on it. Very linear response in brake feel but ultimately overall stopping power and bite was probably half of OEM pads. For regular driving was fine if you start applying brakes a tad earlier, but if you had to do a panic stop, it was scary.
My wife's CLS500 also has these pads and aren't as bad as my S class was, but still the bite and stopping is not as good as it can be. Both cars had new rotors and brake fluid... So i'm not even considering them for the Porsche. |
