Default Spare tire

When I bought my car it had 19 inch wheels and fairly old tires. The tires lasted until the fall before one finally went. I used the spare and quickly got a new set of 18 inch wheels with (again used) winter tires. Sure enough my tires didn't make it until the end of the season and I blew a rear Saturday. This time, however, my spare wouldn't inflate.

Is it possible to fix the spare or do you have to buy an entirely new spare rim and tire? And where can you get a new one? As I this spring invest in used 18 inch rims and hopefully sell the 19 inch ones (19s are useless if you actually drive your car. They make the ride intolerable) and new tires, this hopefully will not be an issue. I do however not like having a spare on hand even though I plan never to need one.

If you are just looking to see if the spare can be inflated in the future for emergency use, I would take it to a competent tire shop and see if the problem is fixable. I think they would need to convince me that it is safe and fixable rather than me convincing them.....
In any case I would not drive my car with the spare further than the few miles it takes to get it home or to the tire shop.
You may be able to source a new spare from a Porsche dealer (Sunset and Suncoast are two popular parts sellers commonly mentioned), or try an auto dismantler for a used one.
Also, check the Rennlist classifieds, and the PCA website classifieds.

I never drive the car more than a few miles on the spare. And this one is shot. It won't inflate period. I hate to go to a dealer. I suspect it will cost a fortune, but it might be the only option.

Is this a C2 standard spare or a C4 "build it yourself" one? Since you are talking about having to inflate it I assume it's the later. As I recall (could be entirely wrong) the spare that comes with the C4s isn't meant to be repaired and you'll need a new one. If it is the C2 version, I believe it should be repairable or (assuming the tire can't be repaired) replace just the tire itself.

My $0.02, stop skimping out on your tires and buy some fresh ones

Fix-A-Flat. The triceps hate pulling a tire off that has that stuff in it but it will get you home most of the time
