Question E-Z Top Hardtop Hoist

Anyone have one?

http://www.eztop.com/

I got one for Christmas, but need to buy the mounting bracket for the 996.

I'd love to hear what people think of them.

Thanks

Very cool looking item for the CAB. I don't have one but would love to hear opinions on them. Right now, my wife and I put the hartop on in about 5 minutes which includes taking the cover off them placing the top in place on the car and latching it down. But as for storage it resides in a storage closet in one of our upstairs guest rooms.

ps. I went to the website and watched the video. All I can say is cheezy!

Yea that video is cheesy. Well I ordered the bracket, maybe I'll be the Rennlist guinea pig on this one. It's expensive.

DonW-Cape Cod ( winter in Napes soon to be summers in New Hampshire ) has one, but a search shows pics that look like a different brand.

I'll be curious to hear how it works for you.

Agree - video is very cheezy!

I have this unit(manual) installed. I think it's great, construction of winch is top notch. Make sure when you install that you can lower directly into place. I installed to specs by EZ Top. The problem is, that due to my garage door opener, the hoist is slightly behind the "drop point" for my car. Not a major problem, but after installed I realized a foot or so further forward would not have been a problem. Seeing as I only take the hard top off one time per season, I can live with it. I especially like the off the floor out, of the way, storage of the hardtop. The folks at EZ Top are great and will answer all questions.
Mounting bracket? The only additional purchase I had to make was the wood, for winch mounting. Your unit didn't come with a hardtop cradle?

Well I got it installed and tried it out. It's pretty dang slick. Kind of nerve racking having the hardtop hanging over the car, but I did everything according to the install instructions and it seems very sturdy.

I added two bungee cords to eye hooks in the ceiling to decrease sway/ spin. Top barely moves, even after the head bump test, lol

Thanks Kolshak.

Idocdes - Tell me more about how/where you attached the bungees. I'm glad I got the electric model with the controller on a long cord, because I did have to hold the the top in place as I was lowering it.

Hummmm...very nice, I need to make one of those.

Always a PITA trying to find someone to help me at the right time to remove the top, carry it around the house, into my walkout basement, and into an out of the way spot.

I drilled two eye hooks along the width of the unit, just enough to maintain tension with bungees. Also, used the garage door opener's mounting hardware for a front secure. Really does NOT move.

I have no experience with this particualr hoist, but I had a similar hoist for my jeep wrangler (which I also miss). I placed 4 eye hooks in a square pattern, and criss-crossed rope (smooth climbing stuff) in a "x" under the top when raised. Then released some of the tension on the hoist and stored the top in the air for the entire summer with no issues.

BTW, very cool garage!

Thanks to this thread I ordered one of the powered ones. Will be getting it on Thursday. Been using a rather crude block and tackle system that is just too hard for a single person to control. A bit pricy but cheap compared to what it's hovering over!
