Congratulations Duncan !
Now your next challenge is fault codes and readiness monitors and leaks.
I wish you luck.
My restart after rebuild was also (surprisingly to me !) successful - until I took it for a test drive. Then the problems emerged. Thank goodness for Durametric !It would be very difficult to trace and correct problems without it. But the skills required to interpret its results....

Congrats! With the 996 almost done, what's the long term play? When I looked up 997 reliability, your name seems to pop up regularly =P
Given the effort, documentation, and your reputation on this board I think you could get a decent premium with this build.

Thanks guys! I plan to drive the car and enjoy the engine for now. Durametric readings are good so far at idle. I'm going to break in the engine soon and will monitor for leaks, error codes, etc.
The engine took about 11.5 quarts (9L) for now.
At least I know the AOS is working and not DOA. Yay!
Filter mag installed (a pair).

Thanks and I surely hope so but in reality, I know 99% of the buyers will be turned off by a diy rebuild. That don't concern me much though I really enjoy the process and of course the final product as well.

Excellent write up Ahsai! For a new guy around here it was very interesting to see what you did and how you did it. I learned a lot!
Curious if you could give me the correct part number (hard to see in pic) off that Filter Max...I am going to use the LN Solution and thought it be a great idea like you did.

To the uninitiated, yes. Anyone that come's on RL to ask for new car buying advice would not pass up the opportunity to own this car...I wouldn't have. But enjoy it for now, you've earned it!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. One clarification on the video is the engine could have started in 3s if I had let it. I followed Jake's procedure of cycling the ignition key. Basically crank the engine but turn it off just when it fires up. Do that a few times to build up oil pressure before letting it idle normally. You can see the oil pressure needle jumps higher and higher after every key on/off cycle.
