Default If you have a bad LCD in the Climate control module...

FYI

On our new 02 996, the LCD in the climate control module. The dealer said that a new module was $1000 plus $200 for r/r. I found that a company called Module Master has a kit for $70 that replaces just the LCD. The kit comes with a new LCD, cotton gloves to use to protect the LCD, alcohol wipes to clean the contacts, and a thumb drive with the instructions.

I didn't time the install but total time was maybe 45 minutes, and the control now works like a champ.

914rubber.com has that kit too. I replaced mine a couple months ago.

Is it identical to the original? I have one of the arrows for the vent selection that is out and was interested.

The one from 914rubber.com is identical. Some of the others that are available are similar, but not identical.

Here's my thread on it:

with my luck, the lcd on the used unit would go out right after I put it in. I'm going to try and tackle this project sometime in the next few weeks

I replaced mine using the Module Master kit in Feb 2013. I wouldn't say its "identical" but its VERY close and you do get all of the display icons. I also considered a complete control unit on eBay at the time for $300 (used). For the $60 one hour fix kit I decided to take the risk - No regrets at all.

Works great - no issue - recommended.

The module master kit works, but doesn't look OEM. (It has the Audi-style LCD Layout) I hated it.

The 914Rubber kit is different. It has one identical to the 996 OEM display layout. I replaced my module master display with the 914Rubber display...

Go with the 914Rubber.com kit.

I had both my climate control and now my speedometer started displaying a broken LCD. My car was left outside in 90F temps and both the climate control and the speedometer are now normal!!
Could this be fixed by using a hair dryer on the display??
The heat fixed mine, but not yet sure if it is permanent or will return this winter.

Default LCD failures - discount

LCD's fail due to vibration and moisture. You may be able to dry out the LCD for awhile, but it's highly probably it will revert back when it experiences the same conditions that caused it to fail in the 1st place

Oh, by the way here's a $10 coupon good to the end of the month for those that need one or may need one.

enter "LCDDISCOUT10" in the coupon code at checkout.
