Good seeing you at TC's, sorry about the car
Here is the link for the place selling engines. I don't know anything about them, but might be worth a phone call

Any news from the garage?
Sounds like joe may be looking for another track car.

That's the guy that worked on my motor... I can post the dyno sheet for you to see how healthy she is now if that helps anyone...?

the option of buying a used m96 should ONLY be considered, if it will be opened up and the bearings inspected/replaced otherwise a waste of money, cause you never know, maybe it will run for a year, maybe for a week...

Surprised Jake hasn't chimed in yet with advice and knowledge.
I for one could not have resisted digging further into it. I would have to look under and around engine to see what happened. Its not our car so we shouldn't be too pushy for info. The is a really bad deal for the owner and last thing he needs is our non-stop questions even if they are well intended.
But if he's not too distraught we would all be interested in wtf happened and what MOF/CEF this will be classified as.

Wow that sucks. Any updates?
I keep changing my oil every 6 months, thinking someday I'll find a piece of something. So far it's clean. That does not mean that it won't go bam without warning. I guess the m96 is a reverse lottery - one we don't want to win.

In case you didn't know, LexVan is a Jake fanboi. He will bash anything not associated with Flat6 without even having experience.
Look up Zookie if you want to know first hand experience with the shop.
BTW, the IMSB that MB Motorsports uses is the best and longest selling IMSB from the motherland. I'd like to think the Germans know more about their products.

Well, as usual, looks like Macster got it right.
There's a hole through the case over the timing chain. I spoke to the guys at the shop, and they said it wasn't worth the expense of tearing down the motor to figure out exactly what failed, but their guess is that the cam timing chain broke or skipped, or the tensioners failed, thus causing the chain to break through the housing. Photo below of the hole, you can see the timing chain through the hole.
The shop says that there are no used 3.6 motors to be found.
I spoke to another guy who says that maybe he could find the case half and rebuild from there. Of course, there may be extensive collateral damage.
I have no idea what to do at this point. The rest of the car is in great shape.
Suggestions? And no, I really don't have the time or resources to part the car out.
Bummed big time.
Jay, good seeing you over at Tom's today. Thanks for the info.
